Noj Posted July 31, 2011 Report Posted July 31, 2011 Singer/songwriter Eugene McDaniels passes. I dig his stuff. RIP Eugene, and thank you. Quote
JSngry Posted July 31, 2011 Report Posted July 31, 2011 I keep hearing that he died, and I keep asking, compared to what? Quote
Noj Posted July 31, 2011 Author Report Posted July 31, 2011 Well, Eugene had some tunes I like so I thought he deserved a thread on this here music forum. I've done nothing, so I guess I'm as good as dead. Quote
JSngry Posted July 31, 2011 Report Posted July 31, 2011 Nobody I've used that line on gets the "compared to what joke", it seems... oh well. But Eugene McDaniels, now there was an interesting character! Quote
Dave James Posted July 31, 2011 Report Posted July 31, 2011 One of my favorite songs from that era: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P2ud1vIsA6s&feature=related Quote
Noj Posted July 31, 2011 Author Report Posted July 31, 2011 I might have known you were kidding, Jim, except I'm a little rough around the edges this morning. Did he write the Les McCann/Eddie Harris jam? Quote
Chalupa Posted July 31, 2011 Report Posted July 31, 2011 (edited) "Feel Like Makin' Love" is great tune. I don't think the definitive version has been recorded, although I do like D'Angelo's version. Edited July 31, 2011 by J.H. Deeley Quote

Some people would make the case for Bob James' version being the definitive one, and I'd not argue too vehemently against that myself. Quote

In general Bob James does nothing for me, but this song and one other, a cover of The Stylistics You're As Right As Rain, just seem to hit all the right notes. Quote
Cali Posted July 31, 2011 Report Posted July 31, 2011 Also like his vocals and composing on the Bobby Hutcherson album NOW! Quote
.:.impossible Posted July 31, 2011 Report Posted July 31, 2011 Good call Cali! I thought "Compared to What?" and "Feel Like Making Love" were the tunes that bankrolled the rest of his life? He had a good one for sure! RIP Quote
sidewinder Posted August 1, 2011 Report Posted August 1, 2011 Also like his vocals and composing on the Bobby Hutcherson album NOW! Very sad news, RIP. That is the one I'm familiar with, too. Quote
tkeith Posted August 2, 2011 Report Posted August 2, 2011 He lived up in my area for years and I'd see him out and about, at shows, in the produce market (that was always cool). Super nice guy. Very sad to read about this. Quote
BFrank Posted August 3, 2011 Report Posted August 3, 2011 I always thought that "Headless Heroes of the Apocalypse" was a very cool and underrated album. RIP Quote
AndrewHill Posted August 4, 2011 Report Posted August 4, 2011 Also like his vocals and composing on the Bobby Hutcherson album NOW! Listening to Now! now. RIP Rev. McDaniels Quote
