skeith Posted October 20, 2011 Report Posted October 20, 2011 (edited) If you live in NYC you are currently being barraged with billboards and posters of famous faces as part of an ad campaign for this clothing store which just opened a second big store in midtown. On poster in particular struck me - under Lorraine Gordon's mug is the description - Founder: Village Vanguard. Was she really the founder? If anything wouldn't it have been her late husband Max? PHILLYQ Posted October 20, 2011 Report Posted October 20, 2011 She's the inheritor of the VV. I've seen those Uniqlo posters, billboards, etc EVERyWHERE. Where'd you see that one? Quote

skeith Posted October 21, 2011 Author Report Posted October 21, 2011 THanks Dave. It is interesting that on the UNIQLO website there is mention of Max Gordon as the founder. THe poster/billboard states that Lorraine is the founder. Quote
jazzbo Posted October 21, 2011 Report Posted October 21, 2011 Hey, she founded Blue Note Records too! Quote

Guy Berger Posted November 11, 2011 Report Posted November 11, 2011 I've been meaning to mention this and keep forgetting - a few weeks ago I saw someone walking with a Uniqlo bag that had the cover from Jan Garbarek's SART!!! (Great album by the way) Quote

(Great album by the way) few years ago Uniqlo in UK did a range of ECM cover t-shirts (as the BN range earlier this year). Sart was one. Great album definitely, less great t-shirt probably Quote

Dave James Posted November 11, 2011 Report Posted November 11, 2011 I think it was Denzil Best, but who's counting? If I recall correctly, Best wrote the song Move after an evening with Lorraine. It was not meant as a compliment. Quote
peterintoronto Posted November 12, 2011 Report Posted November 12, 2011 Lorraine's autobiography is excellent. Very unpretentious and honest. Quote
