chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez Posted November 13, 2011 Report Posted November 13, 2011 this remind me of the early days of the net when there was good stuff on it, why dont more places have this- this is fantastic Quote
bertrand Posted November 13, 2011 Report Posted November 13, 2011 That trumpet player is not ready for prime time. Bertrand. Quote
brownie Posted November 13, 2011 Report Posted November 13, 2011 Sorry to have missed that (time difference ). Caught only the last minute and the musicians packing up! Quote
fasstrack Posted November 13, 2011 Report Posted November 13, 2011 I was there. Stayed after 'Ralphie Boy' to listen. It was great to see Leroy, who I hadn't hung w/since JCT. He, and the rhythm sec. did a great job-as did Duane and The Man himself. Nice phrasing, spacing, esp. comping. His tunes came off. Jazz lived last night at Smalls. 'Just a street where old friends meet' Quote
fasstrack Posted November 13, 2011 Report Posted November 13, 2011 That trumpet player is not ready for prime time. Bertrand. That's your opinion. I've known Dwane since he came up here around '86. We played then in some bands. He feels the bebop thing deeply, didn't get it from a book. And he and the alto player brought Freddie's music out. That's the gig. Quote
brownie Posted November 13, 2011 Report Posted November 13, 2011 Since I missed all but the last minutes of the set, I will tune in when the Redd gig becomes available! Smalls Jazz Club Quote
Niko Posted November 13, 2011 Report Posted November 13, 2011 same here, in the meantime there are also some clips of Redd with the same frontline on youtube, e.g., http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nV-wYwMFkqk more Redd on the smalls live site (and an abundance of Clemons whose work i like a lot) Quote
