ghost of miles Posted September 11, 2012 Report Posted September 11, 2012 Anybody heard this yet? My order just came in at Luna and I'm hoping to pick it up tonight. Quote
Larry Kart Posted September 11, 2012 Report Posted September 11, 2012 VERY good. I'll admit to never having been knocked out by several in-person performances by this band, but did they ever get it together in the studio. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted September 11, 2012 Report Posted September 11, 2012 Looking forward to getting my late summer/fall review package from Delmark. Talked to Shevitz about this particular disc and he was very glad that the work is "out there." Quote
Joe Posted September 11, 2012 Report Posted September 11, 2012 Good stuff; very smart, but not smart-aleck-y. Quote
johnlitweiler Posted September 11, 2012 Report Posted September 11, 2012 It's an outstanding album. They gave a concert at the start of Chicago Jazz Fest week that I thought was even better. Jason Stein played like Lester Young on bass clarinet, for one thing. If you like Berman's cornet playing, the new Fast Citizens CD has Berman at just about his liveliest, most colorful. Quote
mjazzg Posted September 12, 2012 Report Posted September 12, 2012 had this fr a while and I'm definitely another satisfied listener. Marvellous record, great playing and an interesting 'concept' melding very effectively some appraently different musical styles without artifice there's so much good music coming out of that Chicago scene it appears to me Quote
Head Man Posted September 12, 2012 Report Posted September 12, 2012 (edited) If you like Berman's cornet playing, the new Fast Citizens CD has Berman at just about his liveliest, most colorful. If you mean "Gather" then I agree. An outstanding album. Thanks for letting me know about the new Josh Berman, Ghost of Miles, I've just put my order in. Edited September 12, 2012 by Head Man Quote
xybert Posted November 24, 2014 Report Posted November 24, 2014 Bump. After finally getting in to Jason Adasiewicz's leader dates recently i've been getting back in to the contemporary Chicago sound (which i'd previously felt a bit burnt out on). Picked up this album, it's very good! Anyway, not much else to add, but it was nice to find this thread and find that other's here have dug it. Quote
colinmce Posted November 24, 2014 Report Posted November 24, 2014 Berman is awesome. I hope he has a new one out soon. Another solid date is Chicago-Luzern Exchange: Several Lights with Keefe Jackson, Frank Rosaly, and Mark Unternahrer. And a plug for my buddy Jonathan Crawford who does photography and design for Berman & Adasiewicz's Delmark stuff, as well as all of the Aerophonics titles and other Chicago things here and there. Very handsome packages if I do say so. Quote

Wow, I never realized that Lester Young played bass clarinet. Quote
