GA Russell Posted August 1, 2013 Report Posted August 1, 2013 Today is IPA Day. Here is a subjective list of the author's favorites. I haven't seen any of these in the stores around here. http://www.foxnews.com/leisure/2013/08/01/6-beers-to-celebrate-national-ipa-day/ Quote
BeBop Posted August 1, 2013 Report Posted August 1, 2013 The last batch of beer I ever brewed (circa 1979) was an IPA. Really a great style of beer. More hops = better beer. Quote
Soulstation1 Posted August 2, 2013 Report Posted August 2, 2013 (edited) Agree with BruceH about Lagunitas IPA # 3 Sculpin IPA Ballast Point is next on my list Also like Santa Fe Brewery's Black IPA Edited August 2, 2013 by Soulstation1 Quote
alocispepraluger102 Posted August 2, 2013 Report Posted August 2, 2013 Also like Santa Fe Brewery's Black IPA although i'm no hophead, well made black ipas can be awesomely awesome. Quote
.:.impossible Posted August 2, 2013 Report Posted August 2, 2013 Who of you would be willing to send me a bottle of Pliny The Elder? This is an impossibly elusive beer in the Southeast. Quote
Soulstation1 Posted August 2, 2013 Report Posted August 2, 2013 Port brewery Mongo IPA Another good one Quote
Uncle Skid Posted August 2, 2013 Report Posted August 2, 2013 I generally like Founder's beer, especially their Centennial IPA. But that All Day IPA is horrible. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted August 2, 2013 Report Posted August 2, 2013 I am amazed that Fox News didn't question the beers' credentials or bias toward hops. Quote
Jazzmoose Posted August 2, 2013 Report Posted August 2, 2013 I finally tried an IPA last week. What crap. I'll stick to porters, thank you. Quote
.:.impossible Posted August 2, 2013 Report Posted August 2, 2013 All you drink are Porters? What is your go-to? Quote
BeBop Posted August 2, 2013 Report Posted August 2, 2013 I finally tried an IPA last week. What crap. I'll stick to porters, thank you. Tried one and they're all crap? Quote
JohnS Posted August 2, 2013 Report Posted August 2, 2013 It seems to me from my limited experience that IPA is out of fashion in the UK. Quote
Blue Train Posted August 2, 2013 Report Posted August 2, 2013 (edited) I finally tried an IPA last week. What crap. I'll stick to porters, thank you. Tried one and they're all crap? Adding in. Which one did you try that was so bad it covered all the rest? It seems to me from my limited experience that IPA is out of fashion in the UK. Do you mean the UK, or US IPA....because the US IPAs are still big. To the point that more and more are being distributed in the UK and not even in the major cities like London. Today is IPA Day. Here is a subjective list of the author's favorites. I haven't seen any of these in the stores around here. http://www.foxnews.com/leisure/2013/08/01/6-beers-to-celebrate-national-ipa-day/ Not my list, but a good list. BeBop Posted August 2, 2013 Report Posted August 2, 2013 On one level, I can relate to dismissing all IPAs based on one sample. It's a distinctive style, with such prominent hops. It took me more than one sample, but I now know better than to order wits and hefeweizens and rausch beers (if I ever drink again). Quote
Jazzmoose Posted August 3, 2013 Report Posted August 3, 2013 All you drink are Porters? What is your go-to? Black Butte. I finally tried an IPA last week. What crap. I'll stick to porters, thank you. Tried one and they're all crap? Yup. It's the approach: throw more hops than sensible into the mix and proclaim it a great beer. Doesn't work for me. Quote
alocispepraluger102 Posted August 3, 2013 Report Posted August 3, 2013 I finally tried an IPA last week. What crap. I'll stick to porters, thank you. amen, porters and stouts for me, plus some black lagers and barleywines. Quote
Soulstation1 Posted August 3, 2013 Report Posted August 3, 2013 IMO IPAs are like malt liquor The first one might not be good but drink 4 or 5 and they get better and better I also like unfiltered IPAs Quote
Jazzmoose Posted August 3, 2013 Report Posted August 3, 2013 The problem is, with my current health, I'm a lightweight. If I drink two, I'll never see the third... Quote
alocispepraluger102 Posted August 3, 2013 Report Posted August 3, 2013 age cuts into one's tolerance as well. recently, 4 old raspies and 2 straight shots of rare breed within 90 minutes did me in. i was wobblin.' at one time, that would barely faze me........... Quote
.:.impossible Posted August 3, 2013 Report Posted August 3, 2013 Thanks Moose. I'll have some Black Butte this week in your honor. Quote
Blue Train Posted August 3, 2013 Report Posted August 3, 2013 (edited) age cuts into one's tolerance as well. recently, 4 old raspies and 2 straight shots of rare breed within 90 minutes did me in. i was wobblin.' at one time, that would barely faze me........... 4 Old Rasputin (with each having an abv of 9%) and 2 straight shots of Rare breed @ 54.1% in 90 minutes? The problem is, with my current health, I'm a lightweight. If I drink two, I'll never see the third... So, it's the higher abv and/or extra hops? By the way, which IPA was it? It's possible you just picked one that wasn't that good in the first place. Speaking of Porters. have you tried Hill Farmsteads? In general they have an excellent line of beers beside Porters. Soulstation1 Posted September 17, 2013 Report Posted September 17, 2013 Sierra Nevada has a new red summer IPA It's dee-lish....... Quote
