Here is a Coltrane CD called Traneing In which was released the last week of October. Does anyone know anything about it? Live recordings?

It would appear that there is nothing new here in the sense that it has all been bootlegged before. But it might be a nice supplement for somebody who only has the official recordings.

I couldn't really understand from this discussion what we are talking about - GA's link is to a 2004 release, not a recent one.

In any case, the tracks of Coltranology Vol 2 are as follows

Just not sure how we established that 'this' CD (whatever CD we are in fact talking about) contains these tracks. Feeling a bit slow this morning.

Sorry. I only looked at the link in the second post. The single disc looks like a compilation of tracks from various Europe tours in 61, 62, and 63. As far as I can recall, Coltrane only played Blue Train in Europe in 61, Traneing In in 62, and Spiritual in 63. Of course, it also could be something else, but I very much doubt that it is from the same concert.

Looking further it seems that "Blue Train was played ( w/ Dolphy & Reggie Workman) in 1961. "Spiritual" in on 10/25/63. "Traneing In" could be 11/17 62, 11/19/62 (there were two concerts on that day), 11/22/63 and10/25/62. So, really no help from me!

How does this 7 CD box set compare in sound quality to the Pablo Live Trane European Tours? Any tape speed/pitch issues? Most of this material probably already resides neglected on my external harddrive.

How would it differ much? They'll be using the same sources that we use to fill up our external harddisks ... also whom did they steal the photographs from? I'm sure those aren't PD yet ...

I think that it is a safe bet that no new tapes were found, in which case the average sound quality of this material is significantly worse than the Pablo Live box. The latter consists of mostly, if not all, professionally made recordings. But the sound quality is still quite acceptable to non-audiophiles like me.

Well, I assume if there were new tapes, they'd have come to the bootleggers via dime, so we'd have them, too ... there are many more radio material from the European tours that weren't in the Pablo, which could need a fixed update anyway (correcting all the freaked up info).

Frankly, I've given up on trying to bring order to the Trane bootlegs I got from Dime.

My copies of these are earlier bootleg cds or tapes of tapes burned to cdr from collectors. No directly downloaded versions here. It's hard to say where these labels obtain source material definitively. Anyway, too bad we don't have sanctioned releases like these.

Agreed on quality, and most of this if not all seems to be around so I don't know what is new. Don't know if you browsed this guy's website but it is a weird set -up. His stuff is on Spotify, though not this one yet, so it is easy to check it out.
