jeffcrom Posted February 1, 2014 Report Posted February 1, 2014 Hmmm.... I need to look into this. Quote
jazzbo Posted February 1, 2014 Report Posted February 1, 2014 Don't do that. You'll probably pre-order like I did. Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted February 1, 2014 Report Posted February 1, 2014 Funny, I pulled out the Biograph lp last night for weekend listening. Quote
AllenLowe Posted February 1, 2014 Report Posted February 1, 2014 I have that Biograph LP, too; I will also HAVE to have the Oracle. Dang. Quote
Swinging Swede Posted February 2, 2014 Report Posted February 2, 2014 Great news! A CD reissue of Wooding's recordings is long overdue. Quote
Clunky Posted February 2, 2014 Report Posted February 2, 2014 some of this available on Spotify in fairly poor sound. This set should be interesting. The Jazz Oracle site mentions Wooding in the same breath as Duke and Henderson. I'm not sure he's really at that level from what little I've heard. Quote

In all fairness, all it says is that he was a "contemporary" of Ellington and Henderson, which is certainly true. There are some interesting lineups, with the likes of Tommy Ladnier and Doc Cheatham. I will pick this one up. I only have a few of these tracks. Quote
AllenLowe Posted February 2, 2014 Report Posted February 2, 2014 (edited) Chris Albertson knew Wooding, and there are things on his blog about him; also, IIRC, one of Chip DeFaa's books has a piece on Wooding. Edited February 2, 2014 by AllenLowe Quote
