Jazz Oracle has annouced The Complete Sam Wooding 1922-1931 on a 3 CD set.

There are no less then 8 previously unissued alternate takes from the Barcelona session. Also included 3 sideman sessions with all alternate takes.

some of this available on Spotify in fairly poor sound. This set should be interesting. The Jazz Oracle site mentions Wooding in the same breath as Duke and Henderson. I'm not sure he's really at that level from what little I've heard.

In all fairness, all it says is that he was a "contemporary" of Ellington and Henderson, which is certainly true.

There are some interesting lineups, with the likes of Tommy Ladnier and Doc Cheatham. I will pick this one up. I only have a few of these tracks.

Chris Albertson knew Wooding, and there are things on his blog about him; also, IIRC, one of Chip DeFaa's books has a piece on Wooding.
