bogdan101 Posted July 28, 2014 Report Posted July 28, 2014 Somebody just tell me it's good so I can order it already... Quote
jazzbo Posted July 28, 2014 Report Posted July 28, 2014 Reports are positive on the Steve Hoffman forum where this sort of thing is talked about a lot. I'm waiting for the SACD, it's the original mix and that is what I want on SACD. Quote

jazzbo Posted July 28, 2014 Report Posted July 28, 2014 Apparently, according to the discussions I've read, YES. Quote
sidewinder Posted July 29, 2014 Report Posted July 29, 2014 With 2 UK original pressings, an original US pressing, at least one vinyl reissue and several (at least 3) CD versions of various vintages plus the 4CD box set............. I'll pass !! Quote
erwbol Posted July 29, 2014 Report Posted July 29, 2014 (edited) I'll get the hybrid SACD as well. I've heard mp3 sound snippets of the original mix compared to the Wilder remix, and the original had a different feeling to it (the drums if I remember correctly). Edited July 29, 2014 by erwbol Quote
jazzbo Posted July 29, 2014 Report Posted July 29, 2014 I spent decades with the original mix and I prefer it, clearly. I have very good vinyl and cd versions of the mix, I do want the SACD. This release is one of the cornerstones of my collection, and listened to often. Quote
erwbol Posted July 29, 2014 Report Posted July 29, 2014 (edited) I have the original mix on the vinyl from the 40th Anniversary box, but, alas, no turntable to play it on. The only piece of vinyl in my collection. Edited July 29, 2014 by erwbol Quote
Head Man Posted July 29, 2014 Report Posted July 29, 2014 That vinyl sounds VERY good. ... not if you haven't got a turntable... Quote
jazzbo Posted July 29, 2014 Report Posted July 29, 2014 Granted. In that case it has great potential! Quote
Scott Dolan Posted July 29, 2014 Report Posted July 29, 2014 I still do not get this album, but I've never heard a MoFi release that wasn't incredibly well done. Quote
porcy62 Posted July 29, 2014 Report Posted July 29, 2014 I have the mosaic reissue, is the mix so different from the original issue? Quote
jazzbo Posted July 29, 2014 Report Posted July 29, 2014 The mixes are different. In a sense I view the original mix as a sort of processed "rock album" mix, and the remix as a more "unfutzed with jazz" mix. I would possibly prefer the remix if I hadn't been listening to this release since '71, and then the fact that it is mixed the way it is was one reason it sucked me in and has held me prisoner all this time. jazzbo Posted July 29, 2014 Report Posted July 29, 2014 Yes. Just don't ask me when it comes out. I think they have a supersecret Magic 8 Ball they use to plan their release program. Quote
etherbored Posted July 29, 2014 Report Posted July 29, 2014 so when's it come out....? (just kidding - couldn't resist) Quote
jazzbo Posted July 29, 2014 Report Posted July 29, 2014 If I get my Ouija board out this weekend I'll ask. Quote
Scott Dolan Posted July 29, 2014 Report Posted July 29, 2014 Ouija boards can be rigged. Magic 8 Ball? Not so much. Quote
etherbored Posted July 29, 2014 Report Posted July 29, 2014 dare i ask where's hans when we need him....? Quote
Clunky Posted July 29, 2014 Report Posted July 29, 2014 I've had two editions of BB. The original CD issue from the late 80s, this sounded so bad I rarely listened to it. Few years ago I picked up the UK 2LP (original issue) which sounds fantastic. I've not needed to look further and haven't heard any of the additional material issue on the extended reissues. Quote
erwbol Posted July 29, 2014 Report Posted July 29, 2014 (edited) The 40th Anniversary set was a must buy over the 2CD/1DVD Legacy just for the Tanglewood concert. I was lucky and found the 40th new for €39 in Amsterdam. Edited July 29, 2014 by erwbol Quote
Homefromtheforest Posted July 29, 2014 Report Posted July 29, 2014 I have the original CD box set from Columbia; so this version is inferior to the 40th anniversary set? I must admit I greatly prefer "Jack Johnson" and "in a silent way". Quote
