Larry Kart Posted September 2, 2014 Report Posted September 2, 2014 Boot.?!? Links in first two posts have been removed for the above reason (Forum rules). That Amazon sells something doesn't mean that it's not a boot. Quote
JSngry Posted September 2, 2014 Report Posted September 2, 2014 The items with Trane are not the Bohemia sets that have been booted numerous times dating back to Boris Rose labels, correct? Quote
clifford_thornton Posted September 2, 2014 Report Posted September 2, 2014 This release presents, for the first time on any format, the only three known 1956-57 Café Bohemia broadcasts by the Miles Davis Quintet featuring John Coltrane on tenor sax, Red Garland on piano, Paul Chambers on bass, and Philly Joe Jones on drums. Among the highlights are Miles’ only existing live versions of Girl in Calico, Stablemates and How Am I to Know?. Shortly after the third of these broadcasts, Coltrane would leave Miles to be replaced by Sonny Rollins. He would return in 1958, when Bill Evans replaced Garland on piano, as showed by our fourth, May 17, 1958 broadcast. As a bonus, an amazing and also never before released tour de force by Miles on A Night in Tunisia taped in Washington in 1953, as well as an all-star 1958 jam session on What Is This Thing Called Love? 01 Theme/Announcement02 Well You Needn’t03 It Never Entered My Mind04 A Gal In Calico05 Stablemates06 How Am I To Know? clifford_thornton Posted September 2, 2014 Report Posted September 2, 2014 From an AAJ review by Stuart Broomer for another release of the Art Ford material: A word of clarification: there's a 12-minute version of "What Is This Thing Called Love" included, a jam session that was televised on Art Ford's Jazz Party. The notes claim Davis, Garland and Adderley are joined by Gerry Mulligan with Nat Adderley on cornet and three drummers (including Candido). The original producers likely misunderstood a concert announcement as a personnel list. It's identified in Tom Lord's Jazz Discography as a Mulligan band with Art Farmer and Gigi Gryce. Given that the trumpeter's intonation and rhythmic attack are unlike Davis' (and the alto player doesn't sound like Adderley), Davis probably isn't here at all. Quote
