Joe Posted October 25, 2015 Report Posted October 25, 2015 Simmons is always worth hearing, IMO. Barbara Donald too. Simmons + Donald = high priority purchase. Quote

Niko Posted October 26, 2015 Report Posted October 26, 2015 Slightly off topic, Simmons' Mixolydis which had been unavailable for a few years has been reissued (even with slightly improved artwork) by Futura/Marge... Heard it for the first two times yesterday and found that it exceeded my expectations... it's almost a classical Hard Bop album and Simmons fits in nicely (the rest of the band is Eddie Henderson, John Hicks, Curtis Lundy, Victor Lewis)http://futuramarge.free.fr/ Quote
felser Posted October 26, 2015 Report Posted October 26, 2015 Now if someone would just reissue 'Rumasuma' as a labor of love! And some of those obscure 70's Prince Lasha albums while they're at it! Quote
clifford_thornton Posted October 26, 2015 Report Posted October 26, 2015 The Lasha was supposed to happen as a legit 2 CD set of all the Birdseye recordings, but the reissuing label ran out of money. Too bad. Quote

clifford_thornton Posted October 26, 2015 Report Posted October 26, 2015 I wouldn't pan it - definitely solid, but not a record I return to all that much. Maybe tonight will be the night! Quote

felser Posted October 26, 2015 Report Posted October 26, 2015 still could happen. That would be wonderful! Please let me know if you hear more. Slightly off topic, Simmons' Mixolydis which had been unavailable for a few years has been reissued (even with slightly improved artwork) by Futura/Marge... Heard it for the first two times yesterday and found that it exceeded my expectations... it's almost a classical Hard Bop album and Simmons fits in nicely (the rest of the band is Eddie Henderson, John Hicks, Curtis Lundy, Victor Lewis)http://futuramarge.free.fr/ Went out and got this on ebay for under $10 ($17.50ish with shipping) based on your recommendation, John Hicks's participation, and the songs on the CD (can't wait to hear Coltrane's "The Promise"). There's another on ebay for about the same price. Amazon Marketplace and Discogs are much higher, and Half doesn't have it at all. Quote
Niko Posted October 27, 2015 Report Posted October 27, 2015 hope you enjoy it! and i should have mentioned that on the label website the current price for this album (most albums) is 10 Euro including international shipping - which seems almost too cheap to me Quote
