Patty Duke, RIP

Patty Duke died today.  RIP.

I think her hit "Please Don't Just Stand There" qualifies her for a place in the Artists forum.

I remember when she followed Ed Asner as head of the actors' union.

A hot dog made her lose control. Whether or not that was before she lost all sight and hearing and then married Gomez Addams (or was it George Adams, I always confuse those two, what with the eyeballs), I don't know, but a hot dog is a mysterious thing, to be sure.

I'm in New Orleans, and was walking on the levee in the French Quarter. I sat for a while to watch the river go by and to listen to the pre-boarding calliope concert from the steamer Natchez. The calliope player played the Patty Duke Show theme, which I thought was a sweet tribute.

Then she played "Cakewalking Babies From Home," which was hip in a different way.

Liked her in the few things I saw her in and understand that she had numerous struggles throughout her life. 

However, I consider her a musical artist about as much as I do Kurt Russell, which is to say not really.

I saw her over the years in various roles, smaller and larger, and tended to be surprised at her competency as an actress. I shouldn't have been. You have to be good to have that long a career.
