kinuta
The Last Days Of Disco - Whit Stillman (1998) Droning gab-athon about who knows what. Sheer obstinacy stopped me from hitting the stop button. The only redeeming point was the appearance of Kate Beckinsale & Chloe Sevigny who appeared many years later in the same director's vastly superior little gem Love & Friendship. GA Russell
I enjoyed Big Night in the theatre very much. Â Hard to believe that it's been twenty years.

Many, many years ago my friends and I came out of this declaring it the worst movie ever made. Any other contenders?
kinuta
Alone In Berlin - Vincent Perez (2016) Two leads excellent. Convincing recreation of wartime Berlin. Compliments the Ian Kershaw book I'm engrossed in.

duaneiac
Early on, while watching this movie, a quiet voice deep within me began urging, "get out now". I wish I had listened to that voice. This movie is a total waste of time. Not just the viewer's time, but also a waste of time (as well as talent, energy and resources) for the starring actors and the filmmakers. There was nothing at all likable about this movie. Edited July 12, 2017 by duaneiac

It would have to unseat "Tree of Life". Good god, a clinical exposition of mass Academy delusion. "Bug". Genius. The raw pathos of human desperation and madness in a sublime mix of brilliantly paced, gut wrenching suspense. To quote Letterman, when he was worth quoting: "The paramters are askew." In some small way, the world would be a better place with more like this. Did anyone here see Shannon live while the stage play was touring? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jqdKv0Vz0sU   Edited July 12, 2017 by Kate
GA Russell
Duane, in 2014 or 2015, oldies.com had the DVD of Yucca Flats for 99 cents.  I bought it and a number of other '50s horror pictures for the kids at my church for Christmas. PS - Another one was a Richard Boone vehicle called I Bury the Living! Edited July 12, 2017 by GA Russell

kinuta
A Quiet Passion - Terence Davis (2016) Cynthia Nixon gives a stellar performance as Emily Dickinson. Very impressed by the whole film. It has all the usual trademarks of a Davis film plus truly witty and sparkling dialogue, especially in the earlier parts. The ghost of Bergman hangs over the film more heavily as it progresses. This might be his finest all round film and certainly one of the best of the year. Â Â

kinuta
Neruda - Pablo Larrain (2016) Narrative driven but as poetic, unpredictable and unconventional as it's subject. Very interesting and well made account of political persecution in Chile just after WW2. If you like his other films you'll like this one too. Seems he made it at the same time as he was doing Jackie.
