It reminds of my recent read from  Desmond/Hall Mosaic:

Brubeck, who has never spent more than ten minutes of his life at an electric organ, much less the one he is now at, is producing sounds like an early Atwater-Kent Synthesizer. (Later he makes a few major breakthroughs, like locating the volume control pedal and figuring out how to wiggle his right hand, achieving a tremolo effect similar to Jimmy Smith with a terminal hangover, but doesn’t help much.)

I listened to this record yesterday. Another beauty with Riley. More featuring the drummer this evening:

Sonny Rollins - The Bridge (RCA twofer)
Alice Coltrane -  Ptah The El Daoud
Thelonious Monk  - Underground

And certainly some Sphere's ROIO later on, I never quite warmed up to their official releases but love their live stuff.

Agreed, the "Live On Tour" aka "At The Umbria Jazz Festival" recordings are outstanding ....

If I recall correctly, OP played organ on one track on that album -- a real rarity for him!

You're right. :tup He actually plays the organ on a few tracks.

ABDULLAH IBRAHIM: ODE TO DUKE ELLINGTON. WEST WIND WW 2020 [1998]

Absolutely gorgeous, imho.

Prompted to play this by Ben Riley's passing (and by soulpope's earlier post):

Earl Gaines.  Spelling errors are not limited to Japan.

Very strong album, worth hunting for.

Produced by influental DJ Bill 'Hoss' Allen in 1966 this mighty fine effort remained the sole lp  until 1970 (the next one aka "Lovin Blues" saw release on Deluxe) but Earl Gaines moved on for a string of excellent 45`s for the Hollywood, Deluxe and Seventy Seven labels ....
