On Sunday, I picked up this new-to-me CD: Initial impressions after just two listens: This is FANTASTIC. Some of the most interesting playing that I've heard from Iverson. Tootie and Ben Street sound great too. If you've ever wanted to hear Iverson in a "non-Bad Plus" trio context, I'd recommend beginning here. Now, I suppose I need to track down the two studio records they've made. Anyone who's heard them have any thoughts? Edited June 26, 2018 by HutchFan Quote
HutchFan Posted June 26, 2018 Report Posted June 26, 2018 (edited) More Tootie Heath on another new-to-me disc: Art Farmer, et al - Central Avenue Reunion (Contemporary, 1989) Edited June 26, 2018 by HutchFan Quote

HutchFan Posted June 27, 2018 Report Posted June 27, 2018 Jaki Byard - Family Man (32 Jazz; originally Muse) Tonight, this record hit me square between the eyes. I enjoyed it so much that when I got to the end, I listened to the whole thing a second time. Herbie Nichols - Love, Gloom, Cash, Love (Bethlehem) I still haven't ever found my way into Nichol's music. It's enjoyable enough, but I still haven't heard the special magic that others find in it. . . . Who knows? Maybe Nichols just isn't my cuppa joe. Quote

erwbol Posted June 27, 2018 Report Posted June 27, 2018 My collection felt a little light on Jaki Byard, but some of his OJCs are a bit hard to get second hand. Then last week I got lucky. A new Dutch seller on Discogs with a bunch of mint copies of titles I was after. For €65 I got: Jaki Byard: Out Front, Here's Jaki, The Jaki Byard Experience Booker Ervin: Groovin' High, The Trance, Setting The Pace, Heavy!!! Now listening to: Jaki Byard The Jaki Byard Experience Quote
