JSngry Posted August 25, 2018 Author Report Posted August 25, 2018 Pondering the desire I would have for a Basie Mosiac covering the 2nd Verve period. Their are highlights to be sure, just not sure how many. Then again, the Woody Herman Mars/MGM/Etc. is not going to be 100% gravy either. Quote

Wouldn't you include as 100% gravy the album he made with Arthur Prysock? MG Quote
JSngry Posted August 25, 2018 Author Report Posted August 25, 2018 Absolutely! But I think Prysock made better albums for Verve than that one. There's .one, I forget the title, that is one of the best "jazz vocal" records ever made ok, there's two - Mister Prysock and Love Me. Quote
JSngry Posted August 25, 2018 Author Report Posted August 25, 2018 Arthur Prysock on American Bandstand. This would be a record to have! Quote
The Magnificent Goldberg Posted August 25, 2018 Report Posted August 25, 2018 Yes, yes and yes! The one with Prysock is the only Basie big band album I've got except for a cheapo compilation of old singles. If I could find a compilation of stuff from the thirties and forties with ONLY stuff no self-respecting jazz fan thinks is much good, I'd buy it in an instant, but no one would be fool enough to issue such a thing MG Quote
duaneiac Posted August 25, 2018 Report Posted August 25, 2018 (edited) Disc 1 of 4. Lots of great competition on this particular disc, but the winner for favorite song today is "Mr. Big Stuff" by Jean Knight. Edited August 25, 2018 by duaneiac Quote
