I listened a couple times through Bandcamp on my iMac, then bought a CD on eBay. The cover of Hemphill's Dogon A.D. was least interesting to me, but then the original album is a masterpiece. The poem set to music was very effective. On the whole it sounded like something I will return to often, hence the CD. Quote

duaneiac Posted August 28, 2018 Report Posted August 28, 2018 Discs 2 & 3 of 4. (First listen to these discs and I guarantee I am not going to try to force them back into the stiff, unyielding, top-loading hardboard pages that were designed to imprison/deface them. I hate product design which looks nice on paper but actually makes the product more frustrating to use by the consumer.) A lot of great music which I have not heard before. Quote

Brad Posted August 29, 2018 Report Posted August 29, 2018 Actually, I had not heard it but I was intrigued by it and listened to it on YouTube and enjoyed it very much. Thank you. I grew up in Latin America and Spain and listening to the album made me wistful for those times. Quote
HutchFan Posted August 29, 2018 Report Posted August 29, 2018 I spent a lot of time driving in the car this afternoon and evening, listening to jazz all along the way. Style-wise, I covered quite a bit of territory. A couple fusion classics: In 1974 Crosswinds peaked at the 23rd position the Billboard charts. Not on the jazz charts; the pop music charts! Can you imagine a jazz record doing that today?!??! Live Ellington from the stockpile: Lots of terrific Shorty Baker on this disc. Some SERIOUS soul-jazz from Fathead: And, last but not least, some great tenor from Illinois Jacquet: Quote
