Justin V Posted April 25, 2019 Report Posted April 25, 2019 I bought this album on Monday before seeing the great Roy Haynes perform in celebration of his 94th birthday. It is pretty surreal to listen to a 1949 recording of him while having seen him perform so brilliantly in 2019. Quote

I've just been fortunate enough to catch Roy Haynes in New York 4 years in a row. If I lived in New Jersey, my wife would be posting 'Missing' flyers outside all of the New York jazz clubs. Quote

I assume you mean Cleveland, Ohio. That's along way from Jersey. I assume you were there for some other reason. The thing about getting into NY from NJ is that, depending where you live, it takes forever to get into NY. If you drive, it's a zoo and the train is just a royal pain. Quote
jazzbo Posted April 25, 2019 Report Posted April 25, 2019 Enjoying this one in the Cleveland area! Quote
mikeweil Posted April 25, 2019 Report Posted April 25, 2019 Much better than I thought. Hank Jones is superb here, and the four bonus tracks from Gene Ammons sessions are nice. Quote
sidewinder Posted April 25, 2019 Report Posted April 25, 2019 A really nice blast from the past ! Quote
