I am familiar with many of Kral's recordings from the 70s. The two that she made for Choice -- Gentle Rain and Where Is Love? -- are both ... uh, choice, in this listener's opinion. (Sorry. Couldn't resist. ) Quote
Peter Friedman Posted May 15, 2019 Report Posted May 15, 2019 If you like Yusef Lateef on tenor sax, you need this recording. Lateef gets space here to blow, and he is outstanding. Sam Jones on bass, and leader Louis Hayes along with fellow Detroit piano great, Barry Harris also do a fine job. Quote

Thanks for the reminder on this one--haven't listened to it in a long time, so just pulled it out for another spin. Quote

JSngry Posted May 15, 2019 Author Report Posted May 15, 2019 At once extremely more bland and extremely more weird than it seems. This iPod, good lord did I load it up with stuff I'd forgotten about. This is one it's good to hear every five years or so. Quote
Justin V Posted May 15, 2019 Report Posted May 15, 2019 I'm glad I found this one the other day for a mere $5. Quote
HutchFan Posted May 16, 2019 Report Posted May 16, 2019 My favorite version of the NYJQ -- with Sir Roland, Frank Wess, George Mraz, and Grady Tate. Quote
