Jon Christensen    Drums
John Clark     French Horn
David Darling    Cello
David Friedman    Marimba, Vibraphone

That is a new one to me, but I am intrigued.  What are your thoughts?

Just finished Disc 6: Stitt and Roy Haynes!  My toddler's fascination with Stitt has led to the growing realization that he is one of my favorites.  This set is becoming indispensable.

Disc 4: it is pretty amazing that the session with Bill Perkins and Frank Strazzeri went unreleased for so long.

I'm sure it's been done before (& would love any relevant recommendations), but it's cool to hear so many of Wayne's tunes in a big-band setting:

Tremendous recording. One of my favorite recordings in recent years.

Duke Ellington: Ellington Uptown

... with that great signature tune for Willis' Conovers "The Jazz Hour" on VOA

The earlier hous started with Coral Reef by Neal Hefti.

These were the times.

This is (for me) a 5 Star recording. Fontana demonstrates why he is one of the all time great trombone player. Al Cohn is simply marvelous, and Richard Wyands plays damn good as he always does.51Zv0+oaAAL._AC_UY218_ML3_.jpg

Agreed!

One from the "Cool Era" ---> NORGRAN Records MG N-1082 [reissue from Japan 1992]

Just listened to that one from the Tubby box. Great stuff. I really enjoyed it.

Yeah - great Tubby Hayes session, in chaotic circumstances. RRK’s solo on the ballad feature (without mouthpiece) is astonishing and must have dropped some jaws in the studio. First heard it on the RRK Complete Mercury box.
