jazzbo Posted July 22, 2020 Report Posted July 22, 2020 Listening to "Rough and Rowdy Ways" lately had me wanting to revisit "standards" Dylan so I spun disc 3 of this set. I really like these albums. Bob Dylan "Triplicate" Then because it was still near the turntable I put on Duke Ellington's "My People" again (mono, Contact LP version). This "show" is so timely now and so moving to me, Ellington just amazes me. The LP just has such an impact as well with the voices and the percussion so vivid--the tap dancing dances around my room. Joya Sherrill sounds so good on this lp. Then. . . I had to have more Duke. Duke Ellington "In a Mellotone" RCA LP Quote
Jim Duckworth Posted July 22, 2020 Report Posted July 22, 2020   Thanks to previous discussions on this site and a strong recommendation from Mr. Felser, I procured this and happily dug it today Quote
HutchFan Posted July 22, 2020 Report Posted July 22, 2020 Another Lalo Schifrin suite for Dizzy ... I haven't heard My People in a long while. Thanks for the prompts, jazzbo. ... but now you've got me wanting to hear the original, mono LP release -- which I don't have. Ellington-ophilia is a never-ending condition!    Quote

jazzbo Posted July 22, 2020 Report Posted July 22, 2020 (edited) Hermeto Pascoal & Big Band "Natureza Universal" This album gets more interesting the more I hear it. Wild, eccentric melodies and ideas, ecstatic samba energy, but played with concise precision and passion. Amazing music. Edited July 22, 2020 by jazzbo Quote

Justin V Posted July 22, 2020 Report Posted July 22, 2020 I listened to the recordings with Bechet earlier today and listened to this and a live album a few days ago. Davison must've been quite a live performer. I even scored a signed photo on eBay, which is a nice piece of jazz history. Quote
