Well Wilbur Ware and Philly Joe are a strong rhythm section and Johnny Coles isnt that bad either. Here we seem to disagree

;-]]

I remember that Johnny Coles is on it, but as much as I like Johnny Coles own album for BN,  I think I remember I didn´t likee it so much on that Tina Brooks album. And maybe I had my things with never before issued contemporanous CDs under the BN label name.
Like I don´t really like Jackie McLeans Tippin´ the Scales, and prefer the more far out goin albums he did at that time.
Or Lee Morgan´s "Rajah" somehow is not up to what I used to hear from Lee Morgan,

Let´s say, maybe because BN made too many records and then also issued originally rejected material.
I like one good album, no alternative tracks and so, just the music that was recorded and put out then....

But it´s mostly possible I have this listening habit, since I don´t have much time left to listen once a while to a record, that means I mostly listen to what is a regular album or even better a live recording...

Not cold this morning, but quite cool, especially with the heavy dew. A REAL relief up here in the listening room that has been stuffy too long.

Starting off with a new arrival:

Bob Dylan “The1974 Live Recordings” Columbia 27 cd box set, disc 1

Chet Baker Quartet “Chet Baker Quartet” Barclay/Universal Japan SHM-SACD

Music I’ve enjoyed for decades now in fabulous SACD sound.

I particularly like the way Holman arranged the version of "If You Could See me Now"

😁 👍 ❤️

I do like this one too that is  nearly everything from Boll & his big band + many arrangememnts for other groups. He brought even Stans band to swing like mad.

Throughout Europe he directed many radio bigbands of the different countries as from Switzerland, Germany (WDR big band / radio Frankfurt big band/ radio Hamburg big band)  and also in the Netherlands. A real giant he was.

Funny... if this was released on one of Boris Rose's LPs, you couldn't sell it on discogs. But when Jordi puts it out on Fresh Sounds, it's fine. Still a bootleg. 1981 is way way out of the public domain is Spain, where this CD set was released.

Too bad Sal's family couldn't get a cut of this. They could probably use it.

Walter Bishop Jr. - Midnight Blue

Walter Bishop Jr. is , to my ears, one of the least interesting piano soloists of his generation.

As a sideman, his playing tends, In my view, to be fine, but as a trio pianist his playing does not compare with a very large number of other jazz piano players  and is frequently rather dull.
