T.D. Posted January 14 Report Posted January 14 (edited) This is really cool but weird. Especially the vocal material based on Edward Lear text. There's lots of other vocals (which I ordinarily don't go for) with text by Yeats, Joyce and Lewis Carroll. 4 hours ago, jazzbo said: ... rumpeter Adam O’Farrill,.... I know it's merely a typo, but funny. 🙂 Good but slightly weird. Edited January 14 by T.D. Quote
Gheorghe Posted January 14 Report Posted January 14 Bud Powell in top form. Here are some of his best solos. Even if he was the greatest, he did not always reach such heights of inspiration like here. Quote

The old dog and this old dog really did not want to step outside. Was rewarded with the sight of four deer though. Starting off with a release I’m trying again. Bob Belden “Black Dalia” Blue Note SACD I’ve not been crazy about this release in the past. Found the SACD cheap and . . . well it sounds good, I guess I’m warming to the music a bit more. It resembles a soundtrack, and I’m not crazy about soundtracks. . . I’m trying to experience it in a different way. Quote
jazzbo Posted January 14 Report Posted January 14 Another Blue Note. . . this one the “Collector’s Choice” Blue Note issue that reissues the first US cd. Andrew Hill “Black Fire” This one and “Smoke Stack” rival each other as “my favorite” Hill. Whichever I am playing is my favorite! Quote
jazzbo Posted January 14 Report Posted January 14 Arne Domnérus “Best Of Dompan” Bonnier 2 cd set disc 1 Very pretty music. Domnerus has a beautiful tone. Quote

Bob told me that he put a lot of work into that multichannel mix and that he meant for it to be listened to that way. Quote

I seriously doubt that would change my reaction to this music. I'm aware of the work and intention. I just don't like film music, and this seems to be film music to me. I didn't notice that cut and paste typo, thought you were questioning the first name or such. Sorry. Doesn't seem funny to me. jazzbo Posted January 14 Report Posted January 14 Thanks. Me too! Hope we don't get snow until I do. .. shoveling snow in this cold (15 to 25 degree F highs) is not going to help. Quote
