JSngry Posted May 10 Author Report Posted May 10 Bandcamp has her whole digital catalog (17 releases!) for under $60 if purchased as a whole. Quote
jazzbo Posted May 10 Report Posted May 10 (edited) That's cool. I don't do files or stream. Some day if I am feeling really confident and adventurous I may try the downloading and burning to cdr. . . but that won't be soon. Edited May 10 by jazzbo Quote
jazzbo Posted May 10 Report Posted May 10 Kenny Burrell with Art Blakey “On View At the Five Spot.Cafe” Blue Note Japan SHM-SACD I have about five versions of this on cd and SACD and this one is THE one to listen to. And has additional material. I have listned to the new UHQCD set and it sounds really good too, but this one just has that edge goosing it into the “best” category that SACD always seems to have in my system. Worth the wait for sure! Quote

It's not the way they were.want to be seen. Quote

jazzbo Posted May 10 Report Posted May 10 (edited) Well there are various versions . . . a straight album, ones with a few additional tracks, and this one with even more material, released over time. I like to have and compare versions, it's something I've done for decades. In this case this best version was just released in the last two weeks in two formats. Comparing teaches me about systems and engineering, something I used to do and have done a few times since my band days for a few friends. I will probably thin the herd of some of these in time, I do that, I have sort of semi-annual purges when I have the time to go through the collection objectively. (Right now I have about 30 Japanese and 20 US cds that are duplicates I've culled from the shelves). In cases where I have SACD and cd titles, I tend to keep one of each, as in some cases the SACD is not a hybrid (as in this case) and I still play cds in one system and the car that are not SACD capable. I'm just both an audiophile and collector and they merge in many instances. Blue Note, Impulse and Bethlehem are three labels I tend to be a completist of and keep duplicates often. JSngry Posted May 10 Author Report Posted May 10 What I've been wondering is if it can all fit on one CD, why did they just release it on two? What is the TT? Quote
jazzbo Posted May 10 Report Posted May 10 It can all fit on one SACD, which has a larger capacity than a cd, it would not all fit on one cd. Quote
JSngry Posted May 10 Author Report Posted May 10 Ah, I had forgotten that SACD can hold 110 minutes. That a long time! Quote
JSngry Posted May 10 Author Report Posted May 10 Nothing wrong here...but I feel like I'm still hungry. Great trio, though, outstanding! Quote

I have always had severe space issues and tend to panic if I have more than one record by the same artist, so I'm always interested in others' collecting habits. Quote
jlhoots Posted May 10 Report Posted May 10 At my age I'm happy I can still hear well enough to enjoy music. For sure I'm not an audiophile. In addition my playing equipment is not great enough to make a discernible difference. Therefore I tend to have only 1 copy / version of each album. Quote
jazzbo Posted May 10 Report Posted May 10 (edited) I lost space moving into this expanded cottage with my wife ten years ago. . .I have a climate controlled storage space as well as perhaps enough space for a normal person here. 24 minutes ago, jlhoots said: At my age I'm happy I can still hear well enough to enjoy music. I've been blessed with good hearing and eyesight (I'm 69 and still don't wear glasses, though all my family has since adolescence, parents and siblings). My hearing was recently checked and is quite good--wish my wife's was--I protected my ears during my drumming and motorcycling days. If things were different, things would be different. Pim Posted May 11 Report Posted May 11 Monk, Strayhorn or Mingus: it’s always great to hear Mr. Lacy interpret those greats. This lovely duet with the to me unknown Eric Watson is another great one. Highly accessible but still exciting enough to keep your attention the full 60 minutes. Watson provides some excellent guidance on these classic compositions Quote

Starting off with Lauren Henderson “Sombras” Brontosaurus Music cd This is the first I’ve heard Ms Henderson, bought because Joel Ross is part of the supporting quartet. Wow, what a graceful phrasing and voice that draws one in. Such a pity her other albums are so expensive to collect! This again, love it! Quote
