JSngry Posted Wednesday at 07:34 PM Author Report Posted Wednesday at 07:34 PM Apparently Rusty Bryant stayed pretty active for all of his like, just off the jazz radar. It was a time when you could do that. Play regularly, just locally/regionally and live a comfortable(enough life. Different world then. Quote
jazzbo Posted Wednesday at 07:44 PM Report Posted Wednesday at 07:44 PM Yes, I still wish his career had been "bigger." And that he made it into his 'eighties at least. But as I have been known to say if wishes were horses there would be dung everywhere. Quote

I actually don't care for this album. It lacks all the main features that makes Hawes a jazz pianist I like very much - hard swinging with a strong blues feeling. Just checked and I have 12 Hampton Hawes albums (Contemporary label) on my shelf. I prefer each one of them to "High In The Sky" . Quote

I love this album, but also dig his earlier Contemporary work. Quote

jazzbo Posted yesterday at 10:26 AM Report Posted yesterday at 10:26 AM Woke up in the cool stillness and enjoyed the sound of the birds and trees for a few minutes. I love living out here by the forest. Yesterday I pulled Joe Farrell CTI discs from the shelves and am starting with “Joe Farrell Quartet” on CTI, King Jazz cd. The great team of Dave Holland and Jack DeJohnette anchor this one, and the fourth member is either Chick Corea (three tracks) or John McLaughlin (who appears on two tracks only). There are two duo tracks with Joe, one with Chick and one with Dave. Quote

Joe Farrell – tenor and soprano saxophone, flute, alto flute, piccolo Chick Corea – electric piano Elvin Jones – drums Buster Williams – acoustic bass Airto Moreira – percussion Quote
