jazzbo Posted yesterday at 08:26 PM Report Posted yesterday at 08:26 PM “Kenny Drew Trio” Riverside/JVC XRCD I always wanted a copy of this XRCD but didn’t see one that wasn’t expensive. . . until last week, when I saw one on ebay for 5.99 and free shipping. Took a chance that it was in good shape, and it arrived today in EXCELLENT shape. Quote
JSngry Posted 23 hours ago Author Report Posted 23 hours ago 1941, live in Balboa. Howard Rumsey on upright electric bass. "Lunceford on steroids"? Sure. But at this point it's honest and exciting! Quote

jazzbo Posted 11 hours ago Report Posted 11 hours ago A deliciously cool morning! Slept well after a gathering of like minds with a purpose at Garfield Park in Mentor. A few hours in the fresh evening air was very nice. Starting off with a more modern “Chicago Style” recording I pulled from the shelves. Nothing essential, but well-recorded fun music. Red Balaban & The Eddie Condon All Stars “Memories Of Condon’s - Volume One” Jazzology cd I bought this because “Bobby Gordon never disappoints.” Bass – Red Balaban Clarinet – Bobby Gordon Cornet – Ed Polcer Drums – Ernie Hackett Piano – Jim Andrews Trombone – Ed Hubble Part one of the recording of all the music that bassist Red Balaban and the Eddie Condon All-Stars played at a 1978 Connecticut concert. jazzbo Posted 10 hours ago Report Posted 10 hours ago I haven’t spun this SACD enough–been listening to the OG LP copy I have a few times since I got this and need to revisit it. Have to admit it sounds fantastic. Santana “Borboletta” Sony SACD (listening to the stereo layer). Perhaps my favorite Santana release. Quote

Billie Holiday.....I fell in love with her voice when I was a kid and it has remained that way. I think very very much about vocal jazz now and also if I play with the non vocal band let´s say some ballad most of those I choose are things Billie Holiday sang. I´d say: Listening to how she does a song´, listening to the way she pronounces the lyrics and you have tons of help to get into the song, in the very very inside of it. WONDERFUL Quote
jazzbo Posted 1 hour ago Report Posted 1 hour ago One For All “Incorrigible” Jazz Legacy Productions cd A very modern sounding cd. . . fits well with my mood at the moment. 3 hours ago, Chuck Nessa said: Spending some time with this fascinating 3 disc document.
