The only woman on a Patton cover that I seem to see as white is on "Got a Good Thing Goin'" and I could be convinced that was not a white woman as well if my arm were twisted and I saw stars. . . . "That Certain Feeling". . . I would see no reason to change that cover. That model reminds me of my childhood neighbor and often babysitter Iona Harris, who I thought was one of the most beautiful gals in the world at the time, and she was not a "white woman." Maybe I'm misunderstanding your post The passage is in this thesis here, just search for "white woman" https://andybleaden.blogspot.com/2007/07/thesis-on-john-patton-by-javier.html?m=1 It says clearly that Patton was offended by the cover of That Certain Feeling...(It's even implied that the cover made him so bitter he left the music scene for a while) Quote

That's sad. That does not look like a white woman to me. As I say looks eerily like my African American young neighbor in Philadelphia '57 to '66. Edited 12 hours ago by jazzbo Quote

I've been wondering whether the thesis is a bit inaccurate here and Patton would have been offended by any woman on his album cover regardless of color... That would be more consistent with what I know about islam Quote

jazzbo Posted 5 hours ago Report Posted 5 hours ago Bunny Berigan And His Orchestra “1937” Chronogical Classics cd Bunny was a great trumpeter and kept an orchestra longer than some other instrumental leaders. Fun stuff, I like listening to the studio sides. Sometime soon I should pull a handful of aircheck LPs I have out of storage for a re-listen. Quote

Holy Ghost Posted 4 hours ago Report Posted 4 hours ago (edited) Almost late 60's Aylerish at times, great record! Just editing to wonder where would Jackie could've gone? I imagine he'd be full-blown out there by '69. So wish to hear that rejected BN session from 68. Alas.... Edited 3 hours ago by Holy Ghost Quote
