jazzbo Posted January 11 Report Posted January 11 “The Golden Horn of Billy Franklin” Grand Prix Series mono LP It’s not Billy Franklin. It’s Don Goldie. Very much in the mould of the Teagarden group he was then a part of. Really nice sound as well. Quote

Really one of my favourite Cuban records of its period (which is saying something). It assume a "Conjband" is meant to be a midway between a conjunto and a big band, because there are some really good horn arrangements and surprising space for solos. It's nice to hear boleros with alto solos. Obviously the jam session is a classic, but this one is more in the vein of the pop music of it's time. Quote
JSngry Posted January 11 Author Report Posted January 11 With a few exceptions, I like the Cuban pop music of the time. Some excellent singing and fine arrangements. Do you know this one? Quote

JSngry Posted January 11 Author Report Posted January 11 I have to think that it's a "classic" since it's been pirated/bootlegged more times than I can count. And with good reason! Quote
jazzbo Posted January 12 Report Posted January 12 I looked out the window and was releived to see no new snow. I didn’t want to have to shovel more soon. For some reason I wanted to hear vibes this monring and so I pulled this record from the shelf. “Terry Gibgs” Mercury mono LP. Terry Pollard really delivers. Quote
