jazzbo Posted February 25 Report Posted February 25 (edited) I had forgotten this was the first RCA release by Desmond, putting him in a much different setting than a quartet setting, probably a smart move but time has proven this to be less discussed than those that followed on RCA. I like this though, and yet. . . even with Jim Hall. . . I miss the blend of Desmond and Brubeck, it’s like sweet and sour, or just the right blend of spices in a curry. Rabshakeh Posted February 25 Report Posted February 25 Everything Is Everything – Just Flash In The Cosmic Pan Does anyone know the connection between this record and Terumasa Hino's Hino's Air? I read somewhere that they're the same band, but this one is obviously missing Hino, and I believe it came out on a different label so doesn't seem to just be alternative takes or something. Quote
jazzbo Posted February 26 Report Posted February 26 This has become my favorite batch of Art Tatum recordings. So much energy, joyful dissonance, superhuman flights of fingers. And Slim and Everett! “Jewels In The Treasure Box: The 1953 Chicago Blue Note Jazz Club Recordings” Resonance Records 3 cd set, disc 3 at the moment. And Resonance Records online STILL has the 3 cd set for 9.99. Quote
SMB1968 Posted February 26 Report Posted February 26 Decided to stream this one after reading the Downbeat article on the recording session. Quote

jazzbo Posted February 26 Report Posted February 26 Cold, and going to be another cold day. At least I ran my errands yesterday and can hunker down at home today. I hope. Pulled out “Mingus Big Band '93–Nostalgia in Times Square” Dreyfus Jazz cd This was a great unit and this disc sounds great this morning. Quote
jazzbo Posted February 26 Report Posted February 26 Miles Davis Quintet “Paris Jazz Festval - Salle Pleyel - 10/1/1964” 2 SACD set from Sony in the 7" packaging series. Disc 1 This is one concert from the recent Sony box set of French concerts, and I enjoy these shows. The SACD may not sound that much different than the cd release, but the subtle difference is audible mainly in dynamic contrast. One of Shorter’s first shows with the Quintet and there’s a sense that the rhythm section is really enjoying supporting hin and prodding him a bit. Quote
