Tina Brooks “Minor Move” Blue Note Japan 85th Anniversary UHQCD

This session needed a better digital release and this one is it. Tina Brooks deserved a longer life and career.

I had forgotten this was the first RCA release by Desmond, putting him in a much different setting than a quartet setting, probably a smart move but time has proven this to be less discussed than those that followed on RCA.

I like this though, and yet. . . even with Jim Hall. . . I miss the blend of Desmond and Brubeck, it’s like sweet and sour, or just the right blend of spices in a curry.

Does anyone know the connection between this record and Terumasa Hino's Hino's Air? I read somewhere that they're the same band, but this one is obviously missing Hino, and I believe it came out on a different label so doesn't seem to just be alternative takes or something.

This has become my favorite batch of Art Tatum recordings. So much energy, joyful dissonance, superhuman flights of fingers. And Slim and Everett!

“Jewels In The Treasure Box: The 1953 Chicago Blue Note Jazz Club Recordings” Resonance Records 3 cd set, disc 3 at the moment.

And Resonance Records online STILL has the 3 cd set for 9.99.

Cold, and going to be another cold day. At least I ran my errands yesterday and can hunker down at home today. I hope.

Pulled out “Mingus Big Band '93–Nostalgia in Times Square” Dreyfus Jazz cd

This was a great unit and this disc sounds great this morning.

Miles Davis Quintet “Paris Jazz Festval - Salle Pleyel - 10/1/1964” 2 SACD set from Sony in the 7" packaging series. Disc 1

This is one concert from the recent Sony box set of French concerts, and I enjoy these shows. The SACD may not sound that much different than the cd release, but the subtle difference is audible mainly in dynamic contrast.

One of Shorter’s first shows with the Quintet and there’s a sense that the rhythm section is really enjoying supporting hin and prodding him a bit.
