jazzbo Posted February 27 Report Posted February 27 Cold! Should be warmer today though. I’m trying to wash away some bad news and some unease with Eliane Elias’ soothing voice and interesting compositions on her latest. Eliane Elias “Time and Again” Candid cd 350×346 12.7 KB Quote
jazzbo Posted February 27 Report Posted February 27 On to another very modern sounding recording. . . Jonathan Blake’s “Homeward Bound” on Blue Note. 495×400 91.7 KB A fascinating disc with a rich tapestry of sound created by a great crew: Acoustic Bass – Dezron Douglas Alto Saxophone – Immanuel Wilkins Drums, Cymbal – Johnathan Blake Piano, Keyboards – David Virelles Vibraphone – Joel Ross This was one of the first albums where I realized that Wilkins and Ross were young masters to be followed. Pharoah Sanders liked the tune "On a Misty Night". The A-sections are based on "September in the Rain". Disc 1 This is one concert from the recent Sony box set of French concerts, and I enjoy these shows. The SACD may not sound that much different than the cd release, but the subtle difference is audible mainly in dynamic contrast. One of Shorter’s first shows with the Quintet and there’s a sense that the rhythm section is really enjoying supporting hin and prodding him a bit. Oh, I never had heard about it, have Berlin, Tokyo, and what else.... but no Paris other than a Paris Festival 1949🤣 Quote
