Aggie87 Posted May 1 Report Posted May 1 One of our prickly pear cactuses (I know the word is cacti but it sounds pretentious to me) is about to have a ton of blooms. Quote
jazzbo Posted May 1 Report Posted May 1 Awesome photo! Our dogwood bloomed this week and it looks as if our rhododendron will bloom next week. My favorite time of year. Quote

Mine as well! It's a relatively brief time here in the desert when there's a little pop of color to things. Then the long hot summer with muted colors and many plants going dormant for the summer. It's an interesting contrast to other places I've lived where things go more dormant in the winter months.  Quote

These few weeks are the unfolding of the green that will dominate the summer. And summer here can be a bit humid but is beautiful, as is the fall. But the emergence of foilage in the early Spring feels spiritual, mystic, I love this period.  Quote

rostasi Posted May 10 Report Posted May 10 Quote We endlessly scroll through information on our phones today, but back in the 1930s some lucky Americans could scroll through a radio-delivered newspaper each morning. This used radio stations to beam information to local homes overnight, where it would be printed out at an excruciating 15 minutes per page. The idea became commercial reality thanks to William Finch and his $125 receivers, but thanks to information loss due to static, annoying paper jams and the sheer expense involved, the dream came to an end in 1952 when Finch’s company went bankrupt.  Quote
