How 'bout all purpose Chess (and Argo & Cadet) session dude and future E, W&F leader Maurice White? (alt. answer)

Well, if you want to reverse the sideman-to-leader progression, you could probably find a way to fit Mike Mainieri in there somewhere.

And the tempting answer is Ramsey Lewis, although I don't remember "Sun Goddess" being a #1 pop hit.

Yes, we do have an answer, Johnny Nash, Composer's Choice Argo 4038 and the '72 smash, "I Can See Clearly Now"

I brought it up because when I saw the LP on ebay and the named suddenly clicked, it made me wonder what kind of LP he made. Anyone know?
