tjluke68 Posted December 13, 2018 Report Posted December 13, 2018 You see more modern bands doing full albums (Metallica, Slayer, etc) but have any jazz bands / artists done a full LP performance? Would be neat to see George Benson Quartet with Dr Lonnie Smith and Ronnie Cuber plus a few hired hands knock out the first 2 Columbia LPs. Or Herbie Hancock doing full album performances of some of his classic Blue Note dates (with many hired hands, obviously). Quote
jlhoots Posted December 13, 2018 Report Posted December 13, 2018 Haven't seen that. Not jazz but a local hero here in Santa Fe (Joe West) & his band did the complete Blood On The Tracks when I saw them live this summer. Quote
ghost of miles Posted December 13, 2018 Report Posted December 13, 2018 Not originally written or recorded by him, obviously, but Indianapolis saxophonist Rob Dixon usually performs A Love Supreme in its entirety each January at the Jazz Kitchen. Quote
duaneiac Posted December 13, 2018 Report Posted December 13, 2018 Dave Brubeck's alma mater, UOP, has for many years hosted an annual music festival bearing his name and for years the DBQ was the central attraction for the festival. One year, the theme behind the DBQ's appearance at that festival was to be a live performance of the Time Out LP (maybe it was the 50th anniversary of that album). Ultimately, Dave himself was unable to attend but his son Darius filled in admirably for him and it was a pretty good concert, even if none of the original members of the DBQ who recorded that album made it to that performance. ghost of miles Posted December 13, 2018 Report Posted December 13, 2018 Did Mostly Other People Do The Killing ever give a live performance of their infamous Kind Of Blue recreation? Quote

Milestones Posted December 14, 2018 Report Posted December 14, 2018 LOL. Anyway, there is the case of the Branford Marsalis Quartet doing A Love Supreme, as well as brother Wynton doing the same with LCO. Wasn't there a Latin version of Kind of Blue? Conrad Herwig? Quote
