mrjazzman
Can anyone tell me on which albums will I find the best organ work for Doug Carn, Don Pullen and Clare Fischer(other than Clare Declares, Pipe Organ) as leader or sideman. Thanks.
felser
Here's my pick for Pullen's organ work. The great Doug Carn albums are 'Infant Eyes", 'Spirit of the New Land', and 'Revelation', though not necessarily for his organ playing per se (and he plays a lot of piano on them). JSngry
I'd also recommend Milano Strut for Pullen, a organ duo with Don Moye.
HutchFan
For Clare Fischer, I'd recommend this one: Clare Fischer and EX-42 (MPS) This LP was originally released on Revelation Records as T'DA-A-A! For Doug Carn, I'd probably go with his classic Infant Eyes:
JSngry
Infant Eyes, Spirit Of The New Land, and Revelation are certainly the definitive Carn sides, but before those he did a trio album for Savoy in 1969 that I found pretty satisfying in a much more "traditional organ trio" fashion. Hardly something you "need to have", but if you find it, enjoy!
kh1958
Doug Carn plays only organ on the fairly recent My Spirit (not as good a record as the classics noted above but still pretty good), and it appears he has another new one by his West Coast Organ Band called Free For All. I completely agree with these selections! (Shakill's II is also very good)
mrjazzman
Great answers as usual. Thank you all.
CJ Shearn
Though largely in a supporting role, I love Pullen's organ playing on Maceo Parker's Roots Revisited.
mikeweil
I love Clare Fischer's organ playing on Cal Tjader's Sona Libre (half organ, half piano, though): There was a CD reissue in the 1980's. This Revelation solo LP has Fischer swinging his ass off on a Yamaha organ: I second the recommendation of the quartet LP with Gary Foster - the two were a great pairing!
