Teasing the Korean
Watched the Sparks doc last night. Unbelievable.
JSngry
Their music never got to me, but still, a very interesting story!
Teasing the Korean
I always assumed they were British, and I had no idea they had continued working all these decades.
Rooster_Ties
Don’t know a thing about them, other than they (whoever they are, which I never figured out) had done some sort of collaboration recently-ish with Frank Ferdinand… https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/FFS_(band)

When they first started putting out the records, they identified as Californian. As time went on, not do much.
sidewinder
If I remember correctly their early period through the early to mid 70s was in the UK, where they had a few big hits around the time of glam rock and became famous. I remember seeing them on the TV show Top of the Pops during this period when they hit No. 1 in the charts and being quite amazed - absolutely nothing like it at the time. Real originals ! Joe
LIL' BEETHOVEN is genius. Loved the film as well. I was introduced to them thanks to their appearance in the disaster film ROLLERCOASTER.
randyhersom
Coming to Big Ears on Thursday Mar 24, but I won't pass up Patti Smith for them, so we'll see how the scheduling shakes out. Or Trefoil with Kris Davis. Edited January 16, 2022 by randyhersom

If it were me, I would not hesitate for a second to choose Sparks over Patti Smith. That's what makes horse racing. I'm all about experiencing music at home in mid-century moderne splendor, paired with an appropriate cocktail.
JSngry
and I'm all about not going out for too much of anything until the COVID thing is better tamed than it is right now.
Teasing the Korean
BTW, Sparks did a series of shows in which the opening set was an album in its entirety. They had to learn their entire back catalog so they could play a different album every night!
JSngry
Not unlike the Stax tour of Europe in 1967(?). The had all the OG players on board, but they all had to relearn all the songs because for them, it was all like a day at the office, get one down, go on to the next one, don't look back. What millions op people knew by memory, these guys were like "huh? which one was that?" I applaud the work ethic there.
