I must admit I wouldn´t have recognized Art Blakey on this. 
I always saw him with a first greyish, than almost white "afro" and this spreads from a very long period from the 70´s until his death.

I agree that that is not really a good image of Blakey. That said, check out Oris watch company's "Art Blakey Limited Edition" watch.

Seems like it's based on Free For All era Blakey, like a straight on image of the cover photo. But they did weird things with his chin/lines under his jaw.

Looks to me as if this photo below was the source for the digital drawing. . . and the jaw area appears pretty much the same. . . .
