tonym Posted April 3, 2004 Report Posted April 3, 2004 It's Saturday evening here in the UK. Millions of shoppers have arrived home laden with 'stuff'. Some of them may be enjoying their new purchases, others may be searching for the receipt in order to exchange it tomorrow (in the UK now, Saturday and Sunday are almost interchangeable, except for car-boot sales and 'Antiques Roadshow'). So. What did you buy? Anything you feel warrants a mention. Exotic groceries. A new car, sound system. Dog. Budgie. Hat. I got a new jacket. Been wearing the last one for 5 years now and I started a new job a few weeks back. Hope you can all contribute. cheers, tonym. Quote
neveronfriday Posted April 3, 2004 Report Posted April 3, 2004 "Dances with Wolves" (4 DVD). Oscar Peterson double pack (live in Paris). Discs by Quincy Jones and Oliver Nelson, some Ben Webster and a never-before seen J.J. Johnson from beginning 80s. I'm a media guy. But, next, I will finally get those new pairs of pants I so desperately need. I promise. Cheers! Quote
sheldonm Posted April 3, 2004 Report Posted April 3, 2004 Well, today I bought groceries (nothing exotic) to make it through the week. Last Saturday I bought a new car (Jeep) so my spending habits may slow down a little for a while. I spend more time and money on photography and live jazz than I should. I went to see Slide Hampton last night and will see Pat Martino tomorrow B) . Quote
Jazzmoose Posted April 4, 2004 Report Posted April 4, 2004 Got a new pair of sunglasses in Santa Cruz today. I didn't buy any CDs today, but when I got home, Jackie Mac's Right Now! and Spaceway Incorporated's Thirteen Cosmic Standards by Sun Ra & Funkadelic were waiting for me in the mail box! Quote
wesbed Posted April 4, 2004 Report Posted April 4, 2004 I didn't buy any CDs today, but when I got home, Jackie Mac's Right Now! and Spaceway Incorporated's Thirteen Cosmic Standards by Sun Ra & Funkadelic were waiting for me in the mail box! Now you can listen to 'Poor Eric.' One of the best tunes from the new RVGs, in my opinion. Quote
BruceH Posted April 4, 2004 Report Posted April 4, 2004 Got the Jimmy Cleveland Verve Elite, finally ($10, used)! So far, my ears say: Quote
Sundog Posted April 5, 2004 Report Posted April 5, 2004 Bought new tubes for my guitar amp today. Details below... Sovtek 5AR4 (Rectifier) Electro-Harmonix 6V6GT (Power) Electro-Harmonix 12AX7EH (Preamp) Electro-Harmonix 12AT7EH (Reverb Pre.) Quote
Jazzmoose Posted April 5, 2004 Report Posted April 5, 2004 If I don't buy coffee filters tomorrow, there's gonna be one grumpy moose around these parts... Quote
BeBop Posted April 5, 2004 Report Posted April 5, 2004 If I don't buy coffee filters tomorrow, there's gonna be one grumpy moose around these parts... Thanks for the heads up. I'm headed back to Alviso in a few days. Wouldn't want to encounter any angry mooses. Quote
jazzbo Posted April 5, 2004 Report Posted April 5, 2004 Pre-ordered the Jazz Oracle three cd "Complete Red Heads" and the Jerry Garcia box set from cduniverse. Lotsa dollars out of my mad money budget to come! Quote
Jazzmoose Posted April 5, 2004 Report Posted April 5, 2004 Now you can listen to 'Poor Eric.' One of the best tunes from the new RVGs, in my opinion. And I can certainly understand your feeling that way! Wow...absolutely beautiful... Quote
ghost of miles Posted April 8, 2004 Report Posted April 8, 2004 "Poor Eric" has been a great favorite of mine ever since I picked up the McLean Mosaic--I'm sure it sounds even better on the new RVG. A local CD store has been having a jazz blow-out sale, so I picked up a few Fantasy titles yesterday (still living in fear of what will happen to the catalogue once the company finds a buyer): Blue Mitchell, BIG SIX Roy Haynes, WE THREE Coleman Hawkins, THE HAWK FLIES HIGH Mark Murphy, THAT'S HOW I LOVE THE BLUES Quote
JSngry Posted April 8, 2004 Report Posted April 8, 2004 Bought a Big Green Egg a few weekends ago, and SO many dreams have come true ever since. Losing a bunch of weight is not amongst them, though... Quote
jazzbo Posted April 8, 2004 Report Posted April 8, 2004 Today I didn't buy anything! Now that's progress! Quote
jazzbo Posted April 8, 2004 Report Posted April 8, 2004 Bet something arrives in the mail though! Quote
Jazzmoose Posted April 8, 2004 Report Posted April 8, 2004 I was going to add a smug "me either" until I read your next post, Lon. You're probably right... Quote
ralphie_boy Posted April 8, 2004 Report Posted April 8, 2004 I bought the Atlantic New Orleans Sessions Mosaic. My wife is gonna kick my ass when the Visa bill arrives! Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted April 8, 2004 Report Posted April 8, 2004 Today I finally broke down and ordered Cecil Taylor's Feel Trio - 2 Ts For A Lovely T. I already know how good it is. I finished my taxes (owed $2600), paid the pressing plant bill ($1900) and said WTF. Quote
jazzbo Posted April 9, 2004 Report Posted April 9, 2004 Yeah, WTF. I've been saying that a lot lately for a lot of reasons! Quote
jlhoots Posted April 9, 2004 Report Posted April 9, 2004 1.5 liter bottle of Bombay Sapphire gin. Put it right in the freezer. Quote
tonym Posted April 18, 2004 Author Report Posted April 18, 2004 A rather nice Canon Ixus i digital camera. Just playing with it now. Quote
wesbed Posted April 18, 2004 Report Posted April 18, 2004 It seems I can never go CD shopping and purchase only one disk. Not a chance. I bought these two this weekend. The Blakey, Night in Tunisia, is the one that lists a fake name, in place of Jackie McLean's, on the outer cover. Quote
