BillF Posted June 24, 2011 Report Posted June 24, 2011 This curiously-named album contains some great stuff - Dave Lambert and Buddy Stewart with Gene Krupa's Orchestra and Red Rodney's Be-Boppers and Annie Ross's classics - "Twisted", "Farmer's Market", etc - as well as LH&R material, 25 tracks in all. papsrus Posted July 4, 2011 Report Posted July 4, 2011 Ordered over the past couple of weeks. Went a little bananas with american music releases. But they really are affordable and a treasure trove: Emile Barnes' Harmony Four (american music) Wooden Joe Nicholas (american music) Prelude to the Revival, Vol. 1 (american music) Prelude to the Revival, Vol. 2 (american music) Bunk Johnson 1944 (american music) Kid Thomas Valentine Creole Jazz Band (american music) George Lewis Bands Trios & Quintets (american music) Kid Howard La Vida Band (american music) Barnes and Bocage Big Five (american music) Johnny St. Cyr (american music) Also: Tiny Parham 1926 - 1929 (chronological classics) Denis Charles -- Captain of the Deep (eremite records) The Parham I'm really looking forward to hearing. The Timeless double CD release is ridiculously priced at amazon, so that was out. But this 1926-29 chrono classic seems equally well received. Quote

jeffcrom Posted July 9, 2011 Report Posted July 9, 2011 To "reward" myself for giving blood today, I stopped in a local record store - I had decided to pick up a cheap Tabby Thomas blues album I had seen if they still had it. Well, they still had it, but they had just put out four Blue Note CDs which I didn't have: Elmo Hope - Trio and Quintet (Conn) Art Blakey - Orgy in Rhythm (Conn); sealed! Lee Morgan - The Procrastinator (Conn); sealed! Paul Chambers - Whims of Chambers (McMaster). Quote

Tom Storer Posted July 11, 2011 Report Posted July 11, 2011 (edited) I recently ordered Craig Taborn's solo CD on ECM, Avenging Angel... and a new one by Aaron Goldberg with Guillermo Klein that looks promising... Edited July 11, 2011 by Tom Storer Quote
JohnJ Posted July 11, 2011 Report Posted July 11, 2011 Tower Records in Shibuya actually had a decent sale, but not unfortunately for jazz. Anyway, bought the following CD's for around $3.50 each. David Bowie - Aladdin Sane Todd Rundgren - Faithful Big Star - Live Quote

DMP Posted July 14, 2011 Report Posted July 14, 2011 Monk, "Live At The 1964 Monterey Jazz Festival." An Amazon reviewer noted that the concert ends with 2 big band arrangements that feature inappropriate, over-blown trumpet solos by Bobby Bryant. That clinched it! Quote
BillF Posted July 19, 2011 Report Posted July 19, 2011 In view of the prohibitive price of this rarity, I made a CD from a purchased download. Sensational stuff! Is that a hint of patriotism I detect in my left-wing soul? Quote
