Niels - I really am very glad that someone here (and I'm glad it's you) stepped up and ordered that 2 CD DKV Live in Wels and Chicago recording.

Very interested to hear your thoughts after a couple of times through.

Disc 2 demands to be played very loud

Well, regarding the Wels and Chicago recording it was kind funny. I wanted to buy a DKV trio recording for some time now, and on the same day I listened to Don Cherry's Complete Communion since quite a while (and loving it) I noticed the DKV trio used that theme for disk one. Than on that same day I also read in the "Best track you heard all week" topic your comment regarding track 2 and 3 of disk two, so it was an easy decision after that.

These 2 tracks are among the first I play for people who might have an interest in "that music you listen to that I didn't know existed"

Then they wonder why Hamid Drake isn't famous

Then I shrug my shoulders

Blues for Tomorrow, baby

I found a brand new, sealed copy of this set on Amazon for a really good price, so I finally splurged on it. Looking forward to listening to it, although I expect I will do so in bits and pieces. 24 discs is a LOT of talk!

was just looking at the five buck downloads over at Amazon and they've got 30+ pages of stuff characterized as jazz. I usually use the Amazon five buck downloads for the occasional backfill, and I picked up five this time:

Bill Evans - Bill Evans At Town Hall

Abbey Lincoln - A Turtle's Dream

John McLaughlin - Extrapolation

Eric Reed - Manhattan Melodies

Danilo Perez - Panamonk

Spinned it like 6 times now, and what can I say. This music just screams all kinds of YES (as does their album with Fred Anderson)! One of the best releases I bought this year for sure, and definitely the best setting I heard Ken Vandermark play in. Only problem; now I realize I really need more Vandermark in my collection.

Thomas Chapin - Never Let Me Go

Chicago Trio - Velvet Songs (To Baba Fred Anderson)

Anthony Braxton Quartet - Twelve Compositions, Oakland 1993

Nice choices. Oakland's a fine set. Chapin is never going to disappoint and that Chicago Trio looks very nice. Be interested in your impressions

This is part of a 13 CD collection. I have three others, and look forward to getting the rest as and when. Essentially it's a series of works that use electronic music (in real time, or as a tape accompaniment) alongside acoustic instruments. Since they're all compilations you get a mix of things, along with excellent and informative booklets (the 13th and last volume comes in a slipcase to accommodate an all English booklet no less than 256 pages lin length!)

Anyway, I am buying them randomly, just digging in where the mood takes me. This has a piece by Francois Bayle, which is reason enough to own it.
