I'm going to be mighty tempted by some of the new Conns this summer, especially Holiday for Skins. Generally, I have been pretty good (i.e. saving not spending money), though last week I bought Marvin Gaye's I Want You. Today I just splurged on a box set of Messiaen's recordings called Messiaen Edition, which is 18 CDs covering most of his output. Apparently this has Messiaen himself playing the definitive version of some organ works and his wife playing many of his solo piano pieces. Can't wait for it to arrive.

I'd say that Messiaen and Shostakovich are my two favorite 20th C. composers (not counting Ellington or other jazz composers), and with this set I will be very well covered for both of them.

Roth, David Lee - Strumin' With the Devil

That's actually a pretty good album! Good version of Ice Cream Man.

Yep. Eruption on a mandolin!

Stopped in at Tower's tonight and told myself: "Matthew, you're here just to look so traffic can thin out." Walked out with: Porcupine Tree - Signify & Jack DeJohnette/Larry Goldings/John Scofield: Saudades (on sale $20). *sigh*

This is an excellent album. "Dark Matter" is probably my favorite PTree tune:

Dark matter flowing out on to a tape

Is only as loud as the silence it breaks

Most things decay in a matter of days

The product is sold the memory fades

Crushed like a rose

In the river flow

I am

I know

This CD Box Set is fantastic - i bought it about 1 year ago and it is in my opinion one of the best box sets in the r&b/soul field !

enjoy it !

That Chess box has been tempting me for a while now, though i've been holding off since i have both the Chess Rhythm & Roll box (which i love dearly) and the Chess Blues box (which i like a bit less). Yes, i know the import has more tracks, but does anyone know how the sound/notes compare?
