She was kind of ever present in the background over here as a reminder of the swinging 60s but also someone who transcended that scene to create an interesting career beyond it.

I agree that 'Broken English' is a great record.

Too bad. She'd been in hospice a while so this is not unexpected, but nevertheless, glad she's at rest.

Did anyone here see her as Peg Leg in Robert Wilson's The Black Rider? There are some great images -- this was the 2004 Barbican revival of the 1990 original.

She lived a "full" life, that's for sure!

I was fortunate to see her in NY at the Bottom Line in 1987 with a very eclectic band of all-stars: Dr. John, Garth Hudson, Marvin Stamm, Fernando Saunders, Bill Frisell, J.T. Lewis. Below is a review of that show.

All these years I thought that she got her start because she was Mick Jagger's girl friend.  That was not the case. 

The liner notes here say that Andrew Loog Oldham met her at a party, and convinced her to let him be her manager.  She then made a record which didn't sell.  Later Oldham introduced her to the Rolling Stones.
