clifford_thornton Posted May 19 Report Posted May 19 Posting here, rather than the "Modern/Avant" thread. This CD is coming out in about a month, and while I did write the liner notes for it, I can also attest that it's fantastic. https://matthewshipptaoforms.bandcamp.com/album/armageddon-flower Mark Corroto has also reviewed it for AAJ, and I wish more people wrote reviews this richly: https://www.allaboutjazz.com/armageddon-flower-ivo-perelman-and-matthew-shipp-string-trio-self-produced Quote
T.D. Posted May 19 Report Posted May 19 Thanks. That is an excellent and unusually expressive AAJ review. Although that site's coverage is wide, I don't usually pay much attention to their reviews : while well-written, they rarely express strong opinions and often come off as "polite" or cookie-cutter IMO. Possible experiment: If this album is placed on the same shelf (or hard drive sector) as Andre 3000's 7 piano sketches opus, will some kind of bizarre chemical meltdown or spontaneous combustion occur? colinmce Posted May 20 Report Posted May 20 Really looking forward to this one, big fan of those Shipp String Trio albums. Quote
Dub Modal Posted May 22 Report Posted May 22 I'll check it out. The Shipp/Perelman Magical Incantation album wasn't for me but the strings may add something. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted yesterday at 02:14 AM Author Report Posted yesterday at 02:14 AM saw this music expanded upon live at the Vision Festival and it was truly mind-altering. Quote
