Accordionist Guy Klucevsek - RIP

Accordionist Guy Klucsevek has died after a 10 year fight with neuroendocrine cancer. He was 78.

I am mostly familiar with Guy's playing from his work with Dave Douglas. I saw him perform with Douglas several times. Of the 3 CDs Douglas released with this band, I really enjoy "Charms of the Night Sky".

That is very sad to hear - RIP. I saw him at least once that I can recall, a Bill Frisell gig touring 'Have A Little Faith' back in the 90s in a band that also featured Don Byron. I recall him fitting in to that band very well indeed.

Very sad to hear this. An original composer and player. I heard quite a few of his records, and enjoyed all of them. This is an excellent one:

I was going to post this last week, but wasn't sure if anyone would know who he was.
Have always enjoyed his work. Early memories are from a score I have that the composer
Jerry Hunt wrote for him that was too difficult for him to play ... another memory is from
my time with Brave Combo and their shared love of playing accordions together on stage,
and, recently, just a couple of weeks ago: helping out a comrade on our radio station who
was having difficulties pronouncing his name every time she played something from him.

Saw him in a similar band a little earlier.  I love folks who play the instrument of their choice and to heck with them that don't get it.

Definitely sad. I know I saw him 2-3 times in NY in the 80s. Probably at the original Roulette. A one of a kind, for sure.

Great creative mind and outstanding artist on this  timeless instrument that never ceases to fascinate.
