Releasing on 4CD, Joni's Jazz features tracks from Mitchell's entire career-spanning catalogue, including repertoire from releases with other artists and labels. It is a dedication and a love letter to her greatest collaborators in the genre---Charles Mingus, Herbie Hancock, Jaco Pastorious, and Wayne Shorter among them --- and features rare demos, b-sides and alt versions of previously released tracks.

It was fun then. But...

Shadows and Light  should probably be streamed by anybody who's interested, though. Great concert and a pretty good concert film.

Yes! (At least to the concert--I haven't seen the film yet.) I've revisited Shadows and Light several times this summer. Killer lineup and a great live followup to Miles Of Aisles.

It's a bit like the way Samuel Johnson described a dog walking on two legs.  One is impressed not so much that he does it well but that he does it at all.

LOL!  Much truth there re: Joni & "jazz".

Hey, it's a lot better than that! Very inventive music, actually. And she was able to tame Jaco, which was no small feat

All told, it's my favorite period of hers.

I just don't have a need to go back to it in a big ass set like this one.

I don't really enjoy the live albums that much, but do like the studio material a lot. But I'll wait a long time to see if there's a nicely-priced copy of this small set in the future.

Hejira is one of the great albums, period.

Agreed, and I like 'Don Juan's Reckless Daughter' (I may be the only person in the world who does) and 'Shadows and Light', but it's all steeply downhill for me after that except for 'Wild Things Run Fast'.

No, you're not the only person who likes that one. A lot of people I know also like it! It's a bit rambling, but just a little.

I like her post-whatever stuff well enough. It's more overtly pop, but there's good players playing it, and that matters to me.

The one that caught me by surprise was that standards album with the orchestra. She did REALLY did that one well, imo. No surprise, she conveyed a deep understanding of the lyrics.
