mjzee Posted July 11 Report Posted July 11 Release date September 5: Releasing on 4CD, Joni's Jazz features tracks from Mitchell's entire career-spanning catalogue, including repertoire from releases with other artists and labels. danasgoodstuff Posted Monday at 11:51 PM Report Posted Monday at 11:51 PM Could be great, could be a train wreck of truly epic proportions. Saskatoon berries are tasty, but shouldn't be confused with other berries Quote
JSngry Posted Tuesday at 12:01 AM Report Posted Tuesday at 12:01 AM I can safely pass. Followed it in real time and have no need to backtrack. Quote

JSngry Posted Tuesday at 02:12 AM Report Posted Tuesday at 02:12 AM It was fun then. But... Shadows and Light should probably be streamed by anybody who's interested, though. Great concert and a pretty good concert film. Quote

I've revisited Shadows and Light several times this summer. Killer lineup and a great live followup to Miles Of Aisles. Quote
JSngry Posted Tuesday at 04:08 PM Report Posted Tuesday at 04:08 PM Michael Brecker as Tom Scott as Wayne Shorter! Quote
Stompin at the Savoy Posted yesterday at 02:34 AM Report Posted yesterday at 02:34 AM It's a bit like the way Samuel Johnson described a dog walking on two legs. One is impressed not so much that he does it well but that he does it at all. Quote
JSngry Posted yesterday at 03:44 AM Report Posted yesterday at 03:44 AM Joni was certainly interesting, but like I said, been there, done that, don't need anything extra, you can call me Hank Snow. Quote

JSngry Posted yesterday at 03:47 PM Report Posted yesterday at 03:47 PM Hey, it's a lot better than that! Very inventive music, actually. And she was able to tame Jaco, which was no small feat All told, it's my favorite period of hers. I just don't have a need to go back to it in a big ass set like this one. Quote
jazzbo Posted yesterday at 04:15 PM Report Posted yesterday at 04:15 PM I don't really enjoy the live albums that much, but do like the studio material a lot. But I'll wait a long time to see if there's a nicely-priced copy of this small set in the future. Quote
JSngry Posted yesterday at 06:00 PM Report Posted yesterday at 06:00 PM Hejira is one of the great albums, period. Quote

Agreed, and I like 'Don Juan's Reckless Daughter' (I may be the only person in the world who does) and 'Shadows and Light', but it's all steeply downhill for me after that except for 'Wild Things Run Fast'. No, you're not the only person who likes that one. A lot of people I know also like it! It's a bit rambling, but just a little. I like her post-whatever stuff well enough. It's more overtly pop, but there's good players playing it, and that matters to me. The one that caught me by surprise was that standards album with the orchestra. She did REALLY did that one well, imo. No surprise, she conveyed a deep understanding of the lyrics. Quote
