An announcement just in from Experience and Legacy that I find exciting:

THE JIMI HENDRIX EXPERIENCE: BOLD AS LOVE
THE AXIS: BOLD AS LOVE SESSIONS BOX SET COMING NOVEMBER 7
Experience Hendrix L.L.C. and Legacy Recordings, are releasing Bold As Love by The Jimi Hendrix Experience on November 7. Produced by Janie Hendrix, original Experience recording engineer Eddie Kramer, and John McDermott, this expansive collection is available as either a five vinyl LP plus Blu-ray, or four CD plus Blu-ray set.

The deluxe box set includes the original stereo and mono mixes of Axis: Bold As Love remastered from the original mixes created by Hendrix, the album’s producer Chas Chandler and original engineer Eddie Kramer. Kramer and engineer Chandler Harrod recently created brand new immersive Dolby ATMOS mixes of the entire 13 song album. The box set presents an additional 40 alternative versions, unreleased studio takes, demos, live tracks and television appearances from the album’s gestation and recording period, 28 of which have never-before-seen the light of day. One of these tracks, a previously unreleased October 1967 studio demo of “Stone Free/Up From The Skies [Demo],” has been made available today.

I have the recent (2018) Analogue Productions SACD. This has the original stereo & mono mixes and I think sounds great.

On top of that, the Hendrix family's digital releases, so far, have not sounded very good to me at all, with all of them having boosted audio, which I find very fatiguing. I'm definitely not buying this one.

I found the last box set to have very good sound. I'm in for this one. I'm a huge Hendrix nut with lots of boots. . . I buy what the estate puts out.

I love Jimi, but I'm dubious at this point on buying any more than hours 'n hours I already have.

Me too.  I did not buy the Electric Ladyland Studios box, and found the Hollywood Bowl CD to be of little marginal value.  It's been some years since any of the ongoing releases really knocked me out.

Well that's too bad. I feel that the Studios box is the best thing they released in a long time!

Good to know, I'll reconsider, thx.

I was able to pick this up cheap based on your recommendation, and you're right, it's really interesting material, thanks for the tip!

I've always been a huge Jimi fan and have bought most of the major releases, collections and re-releases and many of the minor ones too. But I'm on the fence about this one. It's obviously one of his iconic albums, but I just don't think I need another collection of studio outtakes, false starts, and alternate versions. I would think that anything worthwhile or unusual from the vault has been released already. Look forward to hearing your reviews when it's released.

The Hendrix re-releases have been going on for decades.  I have seen a song released first as a 4-minute version, then years later the release of “the complete” 6-minute version of the recording, then came the release of the remastered version, etc.  Now I rarely buy Hendrix releases – but I did get the Band of Gypsys box set.
