RiRiIII Posted 23 hours ago Report Posted 23 hours ago A marvelous 2025 production on Jutta Hipp. Very nice. German : Being Hipp - First Lady of European Jazz - Die ganze Doku | ARTE French: Being Hipp : la première dame du jazz européen - Regarder le documentaire complet | ARTE Quote
Big Beat Steve Posted 22 hours ago Report Posted 22 hours ago Yes, worth watching and listening to any time. Particularly since she has also been graced with excellent reissues (and in some cases first-time discoveries) in recent years. Quote
bertrand Posted 20 hours ago Report Posted 20 hours ago Can't watch in the US for legal reasons. Quote
RiRiIII Posted 14 hours ago Author Report Posted 14 hours ago (edited) It is mentioned in this film that Blue Note sent her in 2001 a check of $40,000.-- against royalties. We can see also Mingus praising her wishing to work with her. Edited 14 hours ago by RiRiIII Quote
bertrand Posted 2 hours ago Report Posted 2 hours ago (edited) Tom Evered brought her the money. Is this a clip from the Mingus film? I remember him talking about Jutta and how he preferred her playing to Toshiko's, but I don't remember him saying he wanted to work with her. Curiously, the Mingus film is 1966. Hadn't Jutta stopped playing by then? I am not sure when her last documented gigs were. No later than 1962 or so, IIRC. Edited 2 hours ago by bertrand Quote
clifford_thornton Posted 2 hours ago Report Posted 2 hours ago Would like to see this some way. Perhaps there's a workaround. Quote
