  1. Thanks for the info! This quote has really made me interested in buying it: I love his electric work on the CD Jazz in Paris: Nuits de Saint-Germain des-Prés.
  2. I have been wondering about this set but haven't been able to find any info on it. How is the sound quality and do you know in what way this material was ever issued previously?
  3. Was the Hodges one of the Mosaic sets that was available in Europe (like the Farlow, Basie, etc.)? For some reason I had a feeling it wasn't since I do not usually hear about members finding it way below the price Mosaic sells it.
  4. I appreciate you passing on the info. It is better to have warning it may be almost gone then it disappear without a chance to buy it.
  5. I wondered the same thing. I bet a ton of people had this set on their radar as a set they would definitely buy once it hit Running Low. Maybe the demand has been quite high since last week but it still doesn't explain why it wouldn't be in Last Chance.
  6. A few years back a customer came into the store I was working at and wanted me to special order her "everything by Pat Hare." While writing up a special order card for Rounder comp we started talking and I found out her husband had worked as a prison guard where Pat Hare was an inmate. She said she had some interesting stories about Hare but I wasn't working when she picked up the order, so I was never able to hear any of them.
  7. It is from a different genre but I had the same problem with the Low CD The Curtain Hits the Cast. While working at the store people bought it like mad and it was well regarded but no matter what time of the day I put the promo on, at home, I was out before the third song. Never did hear the rest of the music on the CD. After a half dozen times I just brought it back to the store to give another coworker a chance to catch up on their sleep.
  8. I have heard of it but I have never even seen that one! Seriously, his early CDs (and LPs) seem pretty hard to find now days.
  9. I would love to have it but I know it duplicates a ton of the material I already own and it is out of print, so the last I saw it is going for over a $100.
  10. Just finished the first disc of the Mulligan Concert Jazz Band and now starting the second.
  11. I was in the same spot in the early 1990s when I first started listening to jazz. What changed for me was vinyl shopping with a family friend visiting from Chicago. He put Dreamstreet in my hands and told me I had to buy it. He also told me if I ever found him a copy of Erroll Garner Plays Misty he would pay double for it. After digging the LP he told me stories about seeing Garner perform live and which LPs to buy, so I was hooked but most of the stuff I was able to find was on LP. Since the thread was started I looked at what is available and I am shocked at the number of "two fer"s and that there are so many volumes of the Classics out now.
  12. I have never heard Nick The Knife or the LPs he produced for others (excluding the ones for Elvis Costello). Most of his catalog is out of print and getting too expensive to buy. I have: Jesus of Cool/Pure Pop for Now People/ Jesus of Cool 30th Anniversary Resurrection a ton of singles that came out around the time period Labour of Lust Nick Lowe & His Cowboy Outfit (Just found it on LP, I haven't heard it yet but love the song Half a Boy and Half a Man) The Rose of England Party of One The Impossible Bird Dig My Mood The Convincer Untouched Takeaway At My Age Basher: The Best of Nick Lowe The Wilderness Years I also have a couple of the Edmunds LPs he plays on and the Rockpile CD. All of the stuff I have heard I liked but my favorite era has been the music on the last four studio releases: The Impossible Bird, Dig My Mood, The Convincer, and At My Age. I saw him perform at a club in town last fall and was blown away by his performance. He came out with an acoustic guitar and just blew me away with his interpretation of his songs and his witty banter.
  13. I have only heard the first dozen tracks of the reissue but it seems to be an improvement in the sound on the previous CD issues. My only complaints so far is that they didn't use the original cover for Jesus of Cool but instead something closer to the cover for Pure Pop for Now People and they should have found a way to put Truth Drug on the CD as an extra instead of a free download. Always a great line from the song Marie Provost: She was a winner that became a doggie's dinner.
  14. My stuff arrived as well. Everything looks great but it looks like the Prima/Manone is moving to Running Low with less then a third sold. The low selling numbers make me nervous because I worry that it may limit more Mosaic reissues from the pre-WW2 Era.
  15. Mine was around there as well. Does anyone know if most of the pre-WW2 sets ended with such low numbers?
  16. The Venuti/Lang set is gone. Did anyone have a set # anywhere near the halfway point?
  17. Pretty nice second set: Variations on Hi Fly Little Niles Kucheza Blues (I think) African Cookbook Mystery of Love
  18. It's Bl*$$dy fantastic ! :rsmile: I'll keep an eye out - probably not as expensive to obtain as some other OOP Mosaics. Actually I believe it is one that consistently hits a pretty high closing bid on eBay.
  19. For years I thought I was missing out on something great but you guys have hipped me to the fact I should be thankful I haven't heard it!
  20. Thanks Quincy, that is the one. I think I read about it in Down Beat. As far as I can recall, he mentioned it in a context of him having recently received a copy of the recording.
  21. I recall reading an interview with Joe once were he mentioned a jam session being recorded that included Coltrane and him. I have always been interested in hearing the recording but I think he mentioned that he didn't want it commercially released because of the quality of his performance and the sound.
  22. I think they sometimes allow you to hold sets as well. It is something to think about if it moves to the Last Chance before two months are up.
  23. I broke down and ordered both with the Onzy Matthews Mosaic Select, Lou Rawls Black and Blue/Tobacco Road, the Mulligan Concert Band set I had on hold, and the last copy of the Elmer Snowden Harlem Banjo CD. I already have the Young/Basie set on order (and debate on adding the Hampton when it is ready to ship!), so it looks like I am not going to be buying any music, unless more sets I do not have move over to the endangered list, for a few months.
  24. Time for me to order up the Johnny Hodges but I am on the fence with the Prima/Manone set. Does anyone have any feedback on it? It seems to have quite a few sessions with Pee Wee Russell.
