  1. My sincere condolences to you and your family.
  2. Thanks for the heads up! I wish at least one of the shows was closer to Minneapolis though.
  3. Leaving in a little bit to drive up to Fargo, ND to see Wilco perform at the Fargo Civic Memorial Auditorium.
  4. This arrived from the Da Bastards a while back but today was my first chance to spin it. Gerry Mulligan Sextet: San Diego Concert 1954/Complete Studio Sessions 1955 to 1956 The set is a great companion to my Concert Jazz Band Mosaic. Hopefully Mosaic will reissue this stuff soon.
  5. Hamell on Trial is a hoot. There are some live recordings up on archive.org that made me smile. I am headed to see Jack Rose the guitar player in St. Paul tonight. Most of the evening I was laughing and smiling but I can't share those moments because they most likely would be bumped to the political forum!
  6. Last night I went to the Cedar to see Hamell on Trial. Last Saturday I saw Kraftwerk in Maplewood, MN.
  7. Maybe it was your copy I found at Laurie's bookstore on 9th and Nicollet Mall. I wonder what Jim was charging on it? He was way overpriced on a lot of things... It very well could have been -- can't remember where I sold it. Things are WAY overpriced there; run-of-the-mill OJCs will run upwards of $20. From what I recall I paid $5 for it at least ten years ago.
  8. PM on the way about: Ammons ,Gene – Boss Tenor (Prestige) 20 bit K-2 scuffed, but plays fine $3 Moody ,James – James Moody (Argo/Verve) $6 Mulligan ,Gerry/Chubby Jackson – Gerry Mulligan Quartet (Fantasy/OJC) $6 Porter/Praskin Quartet – With Sal Nistico: Sonnet for Sal (ORF) $5
  9. Finished the Prima/Manone set yesterday and this morning I started in on The Complete Verve Johnny Hodges Small Group Sessions:1956-61. So far not too many surprises here, just wonderful music.
  10. For some reason I went to the Prima/Manone after the Bix, Tram & Tea set. I have had it for a few weeks but this seemed like the best time to listen. Just finished the first disc, I am now starting the second one, and so far I am really enjoying the Prima sides. The Lester set will have to continue waiting.
  11. I believe he performed it on Letterman to promote the album. From what I can recall it is memorable because he seems a little nervous during performance and not as sharp during the interview. After I watching it I came to the realization that it was likely one of his first public appearance after he quit drinking. I love the song but one of my favorite things about it is how it fits, to me, so well with Swordfishtrombone starting right after it, which really connects with me on another level.
  12. The Complete OKeh /Brunswick Bix, Trumbauer & Teagarden I thought I would focus on the Tram sides in preparation to finally listening to the Lester Young set. I sure am into delaying gratification!
  13. It was sitting by the back porch when I arrived home this afternoon. The surprising thing is it had a post mark of the 26th. It looks like they didn't charge me shipping. When I called Mosaic about it they apologized for the delay, said they didn't know what caused it, and they refunded the shipping. As usual they handled everything the right way. I might have to wait until at least Sunday to listen to the music because I am kind of on a groove with the Django on the Radio JSP set that arrived yesterday.
  14. Django on the Radio boxset I have heard the firs three discs and I am blown away. Even better then I would have guessed.
  15. Is anyone that pre-ordered still waiting on their set? I haven't seen anything yet, so I called Mosaic and they said it shipped the 18th. Most of the time I wouldn't notice or care but I am excited about this set and I have never had an order from Mosaic take more then a few days.
  16. Happy birthday to a very kind and sweet gentlemen that has made some wonderful music. I might have to stop my Django groove and dig out some Moody to celebrate his birth. I met him a few years back and I cherish the memories of how kind and patient he was with me. I have seen him play better and with more enthusiasm then cats that are half his age. Has anyone noticed any out influences in his playing in the mid to late 1960s? One example that comes to mind off the top of my head is the beginning of Easy Living on the Prestige release Don't Look Away Now!
  17. I am looking for Classics 945 Django Reinhardt-1944-1946 Does anyone have any suggestions on where I could find a copy or have one they are willing to sell or trade?
  18. I hope the Gerald Wilson set was in a plastic sleeves.
  19. Maybe people are clicking on your profile to try and firgure out who the lady is on your avatar.
  20. Tonight I am going to see Alfred Brendel with Osmo Vänskä & the Minnesota Orchestra. The program is: WEBERN Passacaglia BEETHOVEN Piano Concerto No. 3 SHOSTAKOVICH Symphony No. 6
  21. If you email or call Mosaic, they'll send you an empty Hodges box. I had one package were I ordered a ton of sets and they did the same thing but it was through DHL. Luckily a family member drove by, saw the box on the front steps in heavy rain, and put it on my backsteps. Mosaic has on my printed label "Put on back steps" but I always come home to find it on my front steps. Finally with the Hodges & Prima/Manone I asked if they had a different shipping option, he offered USPS, and this time it was actually on the backsteps.

    Miles Davis

I think I know exactly what you are saying from the perspective of the Complete Columbia sets. For years the Gil Evans set never really clicked for me until I pulled all of the original LP tracks off for CDr's to listen to separate from the set. Now I have become accustomed to all of the music as it was released and I have learned to appreciate and love it!
  23. Maceo Parker at the Dakota. It is the third time I have seen him perform but the first time as a leader. Every other time I have seen him perform was with Prince.
