Elvin Jones and Gerry Mulligan CJB in "Running Low"!
HolyStitt replied to Ron S's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
I went into the computer lab at school to print out the Chu Berry discography off of the website (I like to make notes on a printed one instead of the book) when I noticed that the Mulligan was on the site. I called them on my cell and they said they found five of them, so I ordered one for a friend to celebrate finishing his PHD this Spring. -

Like everyone else has said I have as well been playing this set a ton of over the last week! Woody Herman Philips Recordings (Mosaic, MS-031) -
The link had an option to see the back of the boxset, so it might answer the track listing question.

Woody Herman Philips Recordings (Mosaic, MS-031) I just finished disc one and now I am going to listen to the rest of this set! I had not heard any of this music but the reactions from board members and the endorsement from Scott from Mosaic (while ordering my Venuti/Lang & Chu Berry sets) was enough for me to take a chance. So far I am very glad I did! -
I wanted to state that I received a email from Newbury Comics today and they resolved everything. The CD was the only one they had left, so I will not be able to get a replacement from them but they refunded everything.

I am waiting for a response from them, through Amazon, on the same issue. The only difference is I paid about $20 for the CD.

The Columbia/OKeh Joe Venuti & Eddie Lang Sessions Disc two and three. Just finished the second disc and now starting the third. I was on the fence with this set for a long time but now that I am actually hearing the music I am glad I made the purchase. -

OJCs, other Concords, some Verves $4.99 @ J&R
HolyStitt replied to Big Al's topic in Miscellaneous Music
Thanks for the heads up! This morning I noticed that they were finally shipping the rest of my order & had canceled another ten percent of the order (I made a big order) but had never refunded me any of the shipping. They ended up canceling about 25% of my order in all (all were listed as in "in stock"). I called and spent 10 minutes on the phone with the customer service rep arguing that they did charge me the original shipping rate. It was ridiculous because they actually were looking at the same page I was that explained everything. In the end they refunded me the shipping total they had overcharged me but this part of the experience has been enough for me to stay away from them in the future. Another negative note about my experience with J&R has been most of the jewel cases have been cracked or broken. -
I assume Keepnews Collection since they were all originally on Riverside.

Everything in my order was listed as in stock. Now the order says that it is "processing." I called J&R yesterday and someone in customer service said they have to physically pick the CD orders off of the sales floor so it could take quite a while. -
I can understand your dislike of "Boogie Nights" but I was surprised to find his other films are much different. I really enjoyed "Hard Eight" and "Magnolia" much more then "Boogie Nights."

I went to it this afternoon. I have been meaning to see it for a couple of weeks now and figured I better go today because today & tomorrow were the last days it will be on the biggest screen the Landmark chain has in town. I am still soaking the film in but my first reaction is wow! I must state a disclaimer though: I like all of P.T. Anderson's films.

This write up was in the Star Tribune today: An unsinkable spirit Last update: December 13, 2007 - 5:22 PM An unsinkable spirit After two dozen gigs and a monthlong European tour, alto-sax great Frank Morgan wasn't feeling well when he arrived home in Minneapolis Nov. 30. The diagnosis: inoperable colon cancer. "He fades in and out of sleep but his spirits are very good," said his second cousin by marriage, Lance Taylor, with whom the 73-year-old jazzman has lived for the past two years. In his hospital room, Morgan sometimes listens (softly) to his favorites -- Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Ahmad Jamal -- and has been autographing his CDs for staffers. A prodigy-turned-junkie who spent 30 years in prison, he made a comeback in the 1980s and moved back to his birth city in 2005. His final days will be spent at home, in hospice care. Taylor said Morgan "made peace with his manager on the phone and said his usual line: 'Ain't it great to be alive?' He knows what's happening." JON BREAM It doesn't seem like a very respectfully written piece but regardless it is still some very sad news.

2007 Hot Stove League Thread
HolyStitt replied to Dan Gould's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
I know all the moves were outside of NY and Boston but nobody has anything to say about Rowand signing with the Giants, Tejada being to the Houston Astros or the Cubs signing Fukudome to a four year deal for $48 Million? -
Jason Kidd out last night against the Knicks because he claims he has a migraine but according to according to Yahoo! Sports Two sources said Kidd has been a constant text messaging partner with LeBron James since playing with him this summer on Team USA and that the Cavaliers are his preferred destination. "They've been communicating about the (trade) options that could get them together in Cleveland," one Eastern Conference official said.

Actually I miss the pre-Jarrett picture. -
I am rooting for Bettye LaVette's The Scene Of The Crime for Best Contemporary Blues Album. Last night, at the concert at the Dakota, she said if she was nominated it would be the first time she was ever up for a Grammy and that the only award she has ever won was a W.C. Handy Award for A Woman Like Me.

Sad news. My first exposure to him was on the Willie Bobo reissue that featured Spanish Grease/Uno Dos Tres 1-2-3. After that I loved him on Kenny Dorham's Afro-Cuban, Grant Green's Latin Bit, Max's Percussion Bitter Sweet, and on my favorite appearance Blakey's Orgy in Rhythm. R.I.P.
