  1. i loved your post, David! the one sighting that i might have caused a bit of a scene over was Bill Russell. i think i would have risked being thrown out of Business Class just for trying to have a word with him. i actually had met him many decades ago and, in fact, went with him and Willie Naulls to Bill's Dad and Stepmother's house for a BBQ outside of SF. i just LOVE Bill. and, as we both know, he would be extremely interesting to talk to (and laugh with)!!
  2. and what a stunningly handsome man Chuck was. young, talented, nice AND handsome. what a tragedy. my deep, sincere condolences to his family and friends.

But he's so dour and reserved...

Brian is absolutely one of my very favorite drummers. and what fun he is to watch!
  5. i've been a jazz fan all my life (since a teenager, to be more specific) and i have never "understood" most of what i've heard as i'm not a clinician. i enjoy what i enjoy and that's enough for me. and i've certainly enjoyed relatively "simple" jazz as well as "complex" charts. it matters not, i just pay attention and most of the time just groove with it. but then, as most folks know, i'm a pretty simple person!
  6. i think it's wonderful that Ron was with his partner for 41 years. i remember Joe too. my sincere condolences to him and Ron's other family members and friends.
  7. TOUCHE, JAZZBO!!!!! couldn't agree with you more but it will never happen.
  8. i was very sad to read about Ron's passing. i think he was only 63. i worked for his manager/agent in the '70s so had some contact with him. he was always warm, friendly and very funny (except when he was depressed, that is)!! his career after Kotter had to be extremely frustrating for him. R.I.P. Ron.
  9. i totally agree with the above about the positive effects and ramifications of The Games. and i'm sure we're all so grateful that there were no "incidents" security-wise or otherwise. a great relief. it seemed that everyone behaved beautifully (mind-boggling so). and the cheering from the crowds for whomever was representing GB (regardless of country of origin) was quite moving. i just loved everything (except the Opening and Closing Ceremonies). could have easily done without most of what went on then.
  10. i thought the closing ceremony was basically a big bore and an obscenely ENORMOUS waste of money!
  11. wishing you a sincere albeit belated Happy Birthday, Mark! here's to a good year ahead too!
  12. well, there was a commercial about "greatness" not just being confined to these Olympic contenders or winners but also attributable to anyone who is striving for their best in whatever field. so that's obviously the greatness category you're in, ejp626!!
  13. he did these surgeries while he was still a "young man".
  14. spelt wrong (again) & he's not in the picture!! this album may have been printed before he changed the spelling of his name.
  15. LOL!!! that's a really good one, Chris!
  16. this link sends me to a Google sign-in, James. I deleted my post. Not sure why it won't work, but it doesn't. BTW, it's OK to call me Dave. so sorry, Dave!! must have been posting past my bedtime!

  18. first one is the great Coleen Dewhurst. grateful i got to see her on Broadway in the '60s.
  19. before all his plastic surgery! ugh!
  20. today was a very sad day as well with the loss of George Duke's wife, Corine, whom i've known since 1969.
  21. i think they generally like to honor "seniors". i'd love to see Cuscuna receive the award next year!
